I don't mind if there is one master cruise thread right now, but the minute there are multiple cruise threads they are all getting locked and not re-opened until 3-4 weeks before the event.

I would recommend cruises stay on the highways as much as possible to help with congestion. We don't want complaints about traffic through multiple towns.

I organized this cruise in 2011 with the same route. It was extremely successful, minus one wrong turn that lead to a speed bump :P We had around 50 cars if I can remember. Driving the speed limit on this route allowed everyone to stay together and caused no congestion.

Let me know if you want any help planning/leading the caravan, I'd be more than happy to help out again. Also, try to have as many 2-way radios as possible. They help tremendously.

Here is my thread that I created for WBM 2011: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2191155

You can see my pictures from the cruise in post #106.

We're traveling on public roads. What would be the basis for a complaint?

Anybody have CBs? I know its old-school but I have one installed.
If we are worried about some bs from local cops I can have the wife check with the cops she works with and see what complaints they may have.

I saw this coming.

While it is a public road, many of the public roads leading to the venue are single-lane-in-each-direction narrow roads. People live on these roads. If cruises cause traffic on these roads, those people will complain (with valid complaints) which would make returning to the venue more difficult for the event.

I disagree with the validity of such a complaint. The surrounding area of a venue expect to experience traffic during an event.

Agree or disagree, valid or not, the complaints do exist and the more complaints get called in the harder itll be to secure the venue in the future.

I think its safe to say that if you didn't get complaints when we took this exact road in 2011, than this year should be fine as well. But I understand where you're coming from. This is why when I organized this cruise I strongly urged everyone to read the caravan rules, and I also announced them before we left for WBM. If everyone is just cruising, and no one is racing/driving like a dick, most people will think the line of cars is more interesting than annoying.

Also true. As noted above, it's hard to judge what locals will do when subjected to a large line of cars.

As you mentioned, make sure everyone reads the rules for caravans. For example, if you have a 50-100 long line of cars on a highway, all in line, you have to let people into that line. Even if it means letting a non-caravaner into the line. even 20 cars at 1 car length behind each other is over 200 yards of a moving wall. It's very easy for this rolling blockade to cause people to miss exits if they aren't allowed passage.

And once in town, every car must of course obey red lights and stop signs. This ain't no funeral procession. The caravan will get broken up once you hit small towns and backroads.

Best of luck!!

Leech0789 help coordinating would definitely be much appreciated! You have done this before with success and I have heard nothing but positive feedback.

I did cruise some of these roads a few weeks ago heading to the UCONN show and I do not foresee any problems. I completely agree with posts above. As long as everyone follows the rules and does not act like an ass and is respectful of the other drivers on the road, we will have a successful cruise in.

I think walkies are a fantastic idea and I suggest bringing them if you have them. I plan on picking some up today for the mountain run as well.

I'm open to suggestions and appreciate the feedback. Hopefully this thread doesn't get locked that way we have time to organize and plan. For those looking to help, you can also hit me up on Facebook, PM me for my cell, or just inbox me.

Sounds good. I'll message you on Facebook after work, that will make things easiest. As mentioned above, the group usually gets broken up into smaller groups once you get close to down due to red lights. But for the majority of the cruise we were able to stick together. Looking forward to it!!

Also, make sure you know which gate to enter. Dont assume the car in front of you is going to the right gate.

Gate Info TBA, last I saw.

Why so early? The past couple of years we have left a little after 8 which was fine. I get a group together here in Dartmouth and we have been meeting up with you guys.

My co-host suggested we leave a bit earlier due to the line to get in and his experience in years past.

This year we are also stopping in Dayville CT to hopefully meet up with more members so we do have to account for that time.

The time is subject to change however. It may be later but we are posting this time for now. We will definitely keep you all posted! Hope to still see you guys there!

I'm guessing you've never looked at a map. Please tell me exactly what highway runs from central RI to WBM without adding at least 45 minutes to the cruise.

This. The past two years we've run this route, we have gotten numerous thumbs up, waves, people going the other way beeping, etc.

In my experience at past WBMs (I've been to 6), the worst time to get there is right before or right after the gates open. Last year we got there at around 9:45 (gates opened at 9:00) and the lines really weren't that bad. From what I heard after last years WBM, traffic around 9:00 was absolutely terrible and it backed up into town. Plus, every year people are tired and sunburned by 3 pm and they end up not sticking around for raffles.

I don't know how productive a stop point in Dayville is going to be, it's not a very populated area. Most WBM traffic is going to be on I-84. But if you're going to stop, there's a Dollar Tree store just before the Burger King on the right. The parking lot is huge and it's always empty.
