I'm from the Dartmouth group that joined up with you guys..The cruise with the total amount of cars we had was great. A little difficulty with communication . ( I gotta get a better walkie talkie ) other than that and maybe a pit stop to leak, lol
Oh and next year can we move the time back up an hour earlier ? Going later did nothing to help with traffic, truthfully entry was not a problem at all for us last year. And that freakin T-shirt and ticket line ate up half the day.

We waited out the line in the parking lot, which is where the real meet is IMO. Did you see the pictures of the line at 10 when the gates opened? It was worse than when this caravan rolled in at close to 11:30. Early or late there were lines.

Ditto. Not sure if anyone saw, but when we drove by the front of Stafford Springs, the line to get in was all the way up the hill. We took our time parking and meeting up with our friends, setting up an EZ up tent, etc. The line died down and it took us about 15 minutes to get in. We also waited to get our t-shirts until around 2:30 pm. That line took us 15 minutes as well. Nothing really happens early in the morning, so personally I don't see the point in getting there early. Everyone who gets there early seems to be dead tired by 3 pm.

We're all going to the same place. Just stay in line. That's the point of a caravan.

And route 6 is awful. Felt like a speed bump every 50 yards.
If your talking about at the big set of lights, over the radio everyone agreed to make two lanes, then figured out it was a horrible idea.....

Well when only a hand full of people brought radios, how could that have ever have gone smoothly?

Mods, please do not close this thread yet. I noticed all of the other threads are being closed. We are still gathering feedback on this year's cruise, and waiting on some to post pictures/videos.

I was disappointed that more people didn't bring radios especially after how much we stressed the importance. Maybe next year we should somehow stage the line of cars that way we can be sure to have radios spread evenly throughout. Also if we can travel by highway it may allow the group to easily stay together (avoiding red lights and traffic would be the biggest benefits) and we could coordinate with the photographers for awesome driveby and rolling shots/videos. We would just have to make sure everyone stays in line. This is the first time that I have had any part of organizing a cruise of this magnitude and I'm sure there are areas where we can improve. It's a learning process and through feedback it can only get better.

Don't get me wrong, given the circumstances and the route, it went extremely well.

I typically go with the Mass Pile caravan, which is 98% highway. Everyone does 60-70 in the right lane. Photographers can utilize the middle lane. And they only time the lane gets broken up at all is at the toll booth. But they always stress the need for EZPasd which makes things much easier.

Highway would definitely help in the future, in my opinion. And there would be no need for radios. You can pretty much see the whole line the entire time.

Taking a highway would add at least 30 minutes for most Rhode Islanders.

You could always go up just a few exits on 295, take 146 up to the pike, and make that caravan even bigger. And it's not goin to add that much more time considering its highway speed and you won't have to stop once or twice to let everyone catch up.

I agree. Even if it adds a little bit of time the cruise itself makes it worth it.

Some people posted pictures of the pike and it was a parking lot.

From traffic? That's an uncontrollable circumstance. There usually isn't traffic at 9am on a Sunday.

Coming from a first-timer, take this with a grain of salt, but I think that having some etiquette guidance would help - I know that I had some issues towards the beginning not knowing the expectations around right lane/left lane, speed, etc. and many folks seemed to share the confusion.

This may have also been my fault but the expectation for radios didn't seem highly emphasized beforehand, and I didn't bring one. My fault if I missed a bigger emphasis on it, of course.

One suggestion would be to figure out pack leaders or a similar delegation system. The pack leader would definitely have radios and be in charge of a group of drivers. Then they could be the ones to pull over or wait for other drivers stuck at lights and delegate organization instead of having a huge long line pull over to wait for somebody caught at a light.

Again, this was my first time, so my issues may be chalked up simply to being a n00b who isn't familiar with Connecticut roads. But in retrospect, those things would have helped me a lot in order to be a better participant and avoid pissing off any other drivers.

I was actually talking to 06STI401 about having multiple groups next year. We have been okay with 1 group the past couple years, but now that we are hitting 60+ cars, a couple groups may be needed.

Breaking down into groups is a great suggestion. As bad ass as it is to have a cruise of 60+ cars, realistically it is almost impossible to stay together no matter how much organization there is.

^THIS^

If we do smaller/multiple caravans next year I'm more than willing to be one of the group leaders to help with pullovers and what not.

I'll also be bringing a tent/grille/chairs next year and staying outside in the parking lot for most of the day where the real show is at

I'd just like to add my input. I think overall the cruise went good. Definitely a lot of people to try to go through a million red lights without getting split up though. I did bring a walkie but honestly didn't know anyone there so didn't feel the need to speak up on it as I had nothing to input but I used it to listen to what was going on and to be aware of traffic and everything. Although at one point when we came to a big intersection everyone on radio kept repeating "right lane, right lane, right lane" so I went into right lane and ended up passing like 20 cars and they all thought I was trying to be a douche.

I think on some of the big red lights, especially the ones when we first exit parking lot, we should have someone just block the traffic flow like motorcycles groups do. Like say we have everyone line up in parking lot in a line ready to go then come to light and just block traffic it might help with the initial split up. Just a thought though

I'll be back again next year for sure though, love seeing all the cars and meeting new people.

We've thought about trying this before. Even though we are trying to stay together, and we are driving the speed limit, blocking the intersection is still illegal and could draw attention from the police. The last thing we want is for the caravan to get shut down!
