Default '10 FXT in Seattle

I started building my 2010 FXT last year and finished it up a few weeks ago. Well, you know, not ME. The tuner did the work. I just provided the funds.

Invidia catless, bellmouth, downpipe Q300
Blouch 380XT turbo
ID725 injectors
DW255 fuel pump
AEM boost controller
ProcessWest top mount intercooler
COBB intake and airbox
Wastegate ported to overcome boostcreep
Custom tune by MPS
22mm Whiteline rear sway bar
24mm Whiteline front sway bar

Final results are 324 WHP 448 WTQ

I'm very happy with the results, though I REALLY wish I could convert to a 5 or 6 speed (more control, fun and an additional 1500 rpm and a few PSI as well).

Looking forward to some track and 1/4 mile runs (I know, it's not heavily modified, but it'd be nice to see what it actually can do).

Can you explain what you mean by the extra 1500 rpms? Is that the transmission trying to shift on the dyno plot or just letting off the pedal?

My understanding from the tuner is that the auto transmission unfortunately shifts (red lines) at approx 1500 rpm lower than the manual equipped 2.5's. There aren't any '10 factory (US market) manual '10 FXT's (again, what I've heard, but I may be wrong), so I don't have an apples to apples comparison. What I do know is my redline is ~5900-6000 rpm, as dictated by the transmission ecu. If i wanted to get the extra rpm, I'd have to swap not only the tranny but the ecu too, and mate it to the FXT bits.

My memory is s*, but that is my understanding

I'm not familiar with the 2010's, but on my 04, I can lock it in 1st and 2nd by manually shifting...Normally the trans will shift around 6300 otherwise, but if I put the selector in 1 or 2, it will go as high as whatever I set the redline to, whether it be 6500, 7000, etc...

Yeah, I think the '04 FXT redlines at 6500, and I think the average STI (varied years) shifts between 6700 and 7000, so there is a 700-1000 rpm disparity between the manual 2.5s and my automatic. I'm not sure why the tuner said having an automatic costs an extra 1500rpm... it's probably that crappy memory I described earlier

I dyno'd a 2010 FXT in 2nd gear to ~6200rpm (stage 2). Have you tried testing in 2nd gear and see if it would stay in gear past 6k?

I haven't, but I'm curious now, and I'll try it (I leave for work @ 5am and it's mostly highway, so I've got lots of space usually).

I did have a serious boost creep issue after the first round of mods (same as the current setup minus the intercooler/wastegate porting/injector swap). It would cut out in the 3rd to 4th gear change hard and throw a P2044 code. At the time is was getting up to 17psi, but porting the wastegate (there was talk of getting an external wastegate but the best path was decided to be porting the existing) and dropping down to 15psi was the fix.

You are correct even in manual mode the tcu will shift for you at a max of 6100 rpm on the newer models but dont let that hinder you it will still be a very fun car and i actaully shift a little earlier anyway. How do you like your turbo i almost went with the blouch 440xt but opted for a td06sl2 20g 8cm on my 2011 xt and had a vf52 on it befor hand. I think i currently have the record i believe for the 09+ fxt in the 1/4 mile on record that i know of and that is 12.6 @110 mph with the vf52 on e85. I hope to get into the 11's this year on the 20g on e85 i hope. You should be able to pull low 13's on pump gas and that turbo which is pretty damn good for a 4eat and a car that is a giant box lol. You should head over to subaruforester.org the people over there are much nicer and there is alot more info and people with you model car.

He should be mid to high 12's I would think with his current turbo/whp on pump..unless you were talking about the vf52 or the 20g

I hope I find out soon!

Can't wait to get out on a track.

I'm a motorcycle guy at heart, and I love track days and even the occasional, albeit somewhat boring 1/4 mile play.

I just checked last night my 2011 shifts at 6300 rpm no matter what you try to do that is the limit. I would think skate is correct with your turbo setup which flows like a 18g you probly will get in the 12's but make sure you post up some results.

Awww, thanks. Is that in part because of your hard work? Are you the MPS guy with the 460WHP Forester?

I was just reading through some old posts... this caught my eye.

When you say that you can set the redline, do you mean actually adjust a setting, or that you manually shift at whatever point you'd like? I don't know where it is, by in manual mode on my tranny, it still forces a shift at a higher rpm, just not as low as is it in the full auto mode.

I bumped up redline in the ECU to 7100, I believe it was 6700 or so from the factory for my model year. But when I leave the shifter in 1 or 2, it will not shift on its own, it would just bump into the rev-limiter (7100). So all I had to do was manually shift it somewhere past 6500, so once the transmission control unit got the request that I wanted to upshift, it would shift somewhere in the 6700-7000 range. If I just leave it in "D", it would always shift around 6300 regardless of what the rev limiter was set to in the ECU.

What did you use to make that modification to the ECU? Are you a tuner?

I think if I could get the XT to get to 7100, I'd try to map/tune it differently. I'm very curious!

Cant be done on our models our tcu is different. There is another guy out there looking into swapping a older model tcu into his sh but I think you will loose the sport shift option by doing so.

Also the higher you rev the more shift knock you will get as well. Did you ever figure that out yet?

Nope, still haven't figured that out. Ignition was adjusted 11 degrees to eliminate it
