Sport can be either MT or CVT, please post yours (or upgrade signature), so we know which you are talking about.

You're calling bull**** on what, exactly? I use Amsoil SS 0-20.

Were your 10 mile or 100 mile stretches 2 way runs? If not I would say bull**** on you, unless it was just one way and you had a tailwind.

i am surprised by your low numbers if you are driving 90% highway at that speed (65mph). i would have suspected you should be in the mid 30s with that sort of driving which would suggest a average speed on the computer in the high 40s to mid 50 MPH.

Yes. They were round trip. And with air conditioning on on a hot day last summer was the 100 mile one.

As are many of us... Your story sounds very similar. Sorry to say, it is what it is.. and it is called false advertising. Sucks! Hope yours gets better. Mine has not. Come to live with the fact that my car will not be a low mid 30 mpg no matter what.

Hmm that doesn't seem right. This is what i'm getting with my CVT, and my highway/city driving percentage is the complete opposite.

~4000km ODO
9.0l/100km or 26.1mpg (lifetime stat displayed in MFD)
90% city (60km/h or 37.3mph)

Flyboy may actually be on to something here. My commute is 1 mile city, 7 miles highway with a traffic light about every mile (still state highways), and 100 miles freeway with most of the traffic at or above 80 mph - each way. I can see some people here "nursing" their Impreza's around trying to boost their mpg - I pass them almost every day - not nearly as many as Prius drivers though - pissing traffic off by driving 60 in a 75 - apparently they have nothing better to do than drive slowly down the freeway...

Now goregasm is in a different world - 42 mpg at 75 mph (chortle). Maybe the traffic engineers in his state are better than everywhere else where half the time you go upwind and half the time you go uphill... Either that or Subaru's quality control is worse than we thought...

Do you seriously expect to get 36 mpg while going 80+mph?

No, although as I've said I do in my Corolla, also rated at 36 mpg highway.

There are some mud-slingers on a smear campaign against anyone who criticizes Subaru here though who keep claiming that my complaint is just about my driving style. Except for them, this discussion evolved a long time ago - to the results of professional drivers who get the same highway mpg as the typical 30 mpg highway EPA rated cars. I wonder what those cars get at 75 mph?

It would be nice to get over 30 mpg on the freeway though.

If I were getting wrx-mpg's, I'd just get a wrx.
Burning oil I get 32 mpg+ avg combined with my non-pzev 5mt.

not that it should matter a huge bunch in the matter at hand, but how accurate is the speedometer on that Corolla.

as has been discussed elsewhere, while the odometer on the Impreza under-reports the distance traveled, it is "spot on" for speed compared with GPS. this is a first for any car i've owned. all other cars, when going 75 MPH usually are overstating the speed by 2-5MPH.

(presumably this is a legal issue so it's better to err on the side over-reporting the speed to the driver)

again, this doesn't say that if the speeds are exact, the Corolla doesn't get better mileage, but this could explain a few MPG advantage...

Then someone adjusted your speedometer because when my speedo says 85 I'm going 79 according to waze.

That's an assumption! Mine I know for a fact has not been adjusted and it's spot on with GPS as well!

They're pretty much all off by the same amount. The speedometer is right on when the tires are new, and when they're down to about 1/4 tread the odometer is right on and the speedometer reads that much fast.

Presuming that full tread tires would cause underreporting, that would bump my best 3 highway tanks to 36mpg and my average to 32. Perhaps the trip computer and EPA ratings aren't so optimistic after all.

You asked before "someone at CR got 35mpg in a TL, so that means the Impreza only gets 30?"

No, it means that if you drove a TL and did not change your driving habits you would also, on average, get 36 mpg in it. Or a Lexus ES 350, or a Volvo S60, or any of the other cars in the first post of this thread.
