Have you considered an engine, transmission, and drivetrain swap from your corolla to your impreza? How about a swap from the impreza forum to the corolla forum? LOL

The truth hurts so much a meager attempt at derision is all you can do eh?

Oops, I forgot you don't even have a CVT (as in the title of this thread) so you have nothing relevant anyway!

Perhaps it would be more fair to compare mpg numbers of the AWD Toyota Matrix to the Impreza.

Yes, the fact that your high speed driving up steep grades causes poor mpg's hurts me terribly.

I might see a doctor...

Certainly.

The Matrix falls right in line with the others in the first post of this thread - EPA highway is 29 and 31 mpg for base and S respectively.

CR's highway mpg for both was 36 mpg, roughly 20% better than claimed, as opposed to 3% worse than claimed for the Impreza CVT.

You obviously aren't getting it. Let me try to explain it simply. Different test speeds give different results. The Consumer Reports (CR) highway test is easier and in the range of the Impreza, cars get about 20% better than the EPA highway test. For you, that means that for every 100 they get 120, or for every 10 they get 12, or for every 30 on the EPA highway test they get 36. Read that last sentence over if you didn't understand it, although at this point I'm not sure you can if you haven't yet. Some people just don't get ratios. Don't feel bad.

So the cars shown in the original post get 35 mpg on the CR test. They are all rated at about 30 mpg highway by the EPA. All except one, the Impreza. The Matrix is consistent with the others, being rated at 30 EPA highway and getting 36 highway on the CR test.

So it's not 1 mpg, it's 5 mpg. Guessing that the average price for gasoline will be around $5 per gallon over the time it takes to put 200,000 miles on the car, that's a difference of around $5,000.

When is your "guess" that they will be this high?? Even still, that's only $0.025 cents per mile or $0.23 per day if you will put 200k miles on it in 5 years. I'm sure you waste more than that on other dumb crap. Stop crying over petty stuff.

LOL - I'm not crying, I just think people who false advertise should be held accountable. If you want to roll over and take it that's up to you.

False advertising?? So you're still ignoring the expected range for most drivers statement on the window sticker I see.

It's not my driving that I'm talking about here. It's the statement that the numbers are "for comparison" because obviously when it comes to the Impreza CVT they're not.

The only way to answer this is to get an epa audit. Have they gotten back with anything meaningful yet?

It's not false advertising if the epa test gives 36 mpg and the car gives 36 mpg at the speeds tested. Steve you yourself have said multiple times that you have achieved 50mpg in the car. So if you stick to the epa averave 48mph or whatever it is, you can expect the rated mpg. At ANY other speed or driving condition mileage WILL differ.

I really can't see your complaint having any effect on either subaru's marketing or epa testing. By all accounts here (even yours) the car effectively delivers on the claims made at the speeds tested.

I think cause its not 6 mpg better than CR tests.

But no one has ever claimed it should be. The only claim made with regards to mileage is the epa rating, which the car achieves.

If you buy a light bulb rated at 60 watts, and CR said it actually used 65, but yours didn't, and only used the rated 60 watts at 120vac, you'd have no complaint because it was working as intended.

You buy vanilla ice cream, and someone else says it tastes like chocolate, but you find that yours is vanilla, you have no complaint.

The sticker says "for comparison". The car achieves up to 50 mpg depending on how it is driven. When it is driven the same way as other cars are driven it does not achieve the same mpg as advertised. If you don't get that I'm sorry.

You "build businesses" and agree with the light bulb and ice cream comparisons? There's something ludicrous in that...

Nah, Stevenhnm already proved 5-10 standard deviations, using data he took from a magazine, to wow the EPA.

Who gives two turds if he only had access to a limited set of data that CR chose to publish, or if other professional drivers have tested the car and achieved over 36mpg @68mph (higher speeds than the EPA test).

That is all irrelevant, we are all owed a huge settlement. I cannot wait until the EPA drops the hammer on Subaru because Stevenhnfmf has proven 5-10 standard deviations!

LOL, if that happens, I will use my settlement to buy him beer and mail it to him...(don't wait by the mailbox)

Speaking of the confused... Zipperlips - this is a CVT thread, remember? How are you going to get a "huge settlement" if you don't even have a CVT?

P.S. Do you know any English Teachers? And I'm not talking about teachers who teach in England. You should probably ask them what "For Comparison Purposes Only" means.

Here are two predictions (please prove me wrong):

You are not getting beer in the mail sent by me

And you are not getting a check in the mail from Subaru because of your lame 5-1,000 standard deviations theory.

LOL

EPA says what it wants, and automakers are free to adopt what the EPA says and is not a case of false advertising, because Subaru et al is insulated by the fact that the EPA's speech is not their own speech.
