Sadly the car was recently totalled by the good friend I sold it to. Wasnt his fault. But its no lomger on the road.
He's pissed because he "cant find anything that fun AND cheap to drive as that crx".
He's a toyota guy himself. His other car is a Celica with a JDM 20 valve blacktop.

I have a SW-20 with a 2.2 stroker making over 600 HP for sale if he is interested. Milage, factory around 30+, now, 10 maybe unless its under boost, then the duty cycles are a little high ;-) so about 2-2.5 gallons a mile

The yaris is only rated at 33hwy. Part of why 30+mpg's with my Impreza was fine with me.
Ever since the 90's, "economy" cars have gotten more and more bloated, and less fun to drive imo.
My 91 crx got 45mpg, to get that these days you have to drive a tampon on wheels with a trunk full of batteries. Wonder how much pollution is produced from smelting all the lead for those batteries...
I started carpooling with a new guy at work - he has a '10 Prius. It gets about 7-8 mpg better than the Corolla, but it drives even worse - bounces all over the road. I'm thinking between the '14 Mazda6 and the Mazda3 that just came out, as a replacement for the Corolla.

I'd keep the Impreza for the wife's commute. She likes driving it too and her commute is only about 20 miles so driving a gas hog isn't as big a deal there

Lol

So, what was your reasoning for wanting an AWD vehicle in the first place?

I am on deck for either the new Gen Mazda 3 or a Next Gen GTI! Subaru, just doesn't cut it for me. At least I know I tried and gave them a chance. I only really enjoy driving my car in the rain. IMO - This car was designed for Seattle WA - fun factor in the dry, CVT =

And the A/C in this car sucks too!!! High fan speeds just makes it warmer in the car. 7 days in a row of 90+ and humid and just can't get it done. I took my 2012 Boss Mustang out today, A/C perfect!! If someone is looking for basic utilitarian, reliable transportation, can accept rattles, I would recomend my impreza. If your looking for anything other than that, there are better choices out there IMO.

Agree, this car is average at best in my opinion. The fuel economy, interior quality, and overall performance are rather disappointing. My wife and I just bought a 02 S2000 for a summer car and I am once again reminded of how a high quality vehicle looks and drives. Grant it I am comparing very different vehicles but the quality difference is night and day.

If you're not using recirculation mode, high fan speeds won't do much to cool the interior as you're just increasing the rate of air exchange.

The Impreza has more interior volume and more glass on it than sports cars with high belt lines.

Good tint, recirculation mode and fan on 2 keeps my car comfortable in 90+ degree weather.

Quite the simplistic question, don't you think? It was in the mix, along with reliability, fuel economy, comfort, etc. I have two 4x4's, one of them is quite comfortable as a commuter - particularly on bad weather days.

Little did I know that the Impreza's fuel economy was closer to the 4Runner than my other car that was rated the same highway mpg by the EPA as the Impreza. Doesn't quite make the purchase worthwhile...

But hey, I'm sure your intent with that question was not so much for an answer as to get a laugh out of the dimwits here on the board!

I have a Sport Limited and my experience has been mostly positive.
- I put the AC on 'Auto' 99% of the time and it cools the cabin nicely even in our miserably humid, mid-90's, NC summer.
- I don't burn oil.
- The heated leather seats are quite comfortable now that I added some lumbar. They were mostly comfortable before.
- The MPGs, while not quite what I was hoping for, are acceptable. I'm averaging 27 on my city commute. I'm disappointed by a tank occasionally but that's normally when it's super hot or cold and I'm in a hurry. This also happened with my '03 Civic.

Of the options available at the time, the Impreza Sport Limited ticked all the right boxes for me (reliability, safety, economy, roomy rear seat, heated leather, bluetooth, hatchback/wagon, doesn't look gaudy/stupid/ricer, roof rack).
I plan on keeping it for 8-10 years so that ruled out a Volkswagen TDI SportWagen.
I don't like direct injection yet because it's so new, the pressures on those things is just silly, and the fuel pump failure reports so that ruled out the Mazda3 (that and the buttons, my god the buttons...).
Focus could have been cool but the back seat is tight and the dash design hurts my eyes.

What I REALLY wanted was something like a Civic EX-L hatchback but they don't have them here. That would have been nearly perfect for my needs but now I have AWD.

But, if I were like some folks on these boards and had real problems, I wouldn't hesitate to get them fixed or replace the car. Yeah, might lose a couple thousand in depreciation but how much is not being miserable every day worth??

EDIT: Price was also a consideration. $22,500 for the loaded model? Heck yes.

Since you find it meaningful, as you have posted this twice, I hope you trade in your CVT, and buy a 5 speed.

You will be able to prove for yourself that your theory about CVT's performing worse than 5 speeds on the highway, in the same drive, is completely off base.

It is driving at the same speeds, and there are not that many hills. What is also not meaningless is that driving my other car, rated the same by the EPA, gets well over it's rated 36 mpg EPA highway at those same speeds.

Your repeated regurgitation about things you know nothing of would be fascinating to a psychologist. Have you been taking your medicine?

Argumentum ad hominem is the refuge of a weak mind and a losing argument.

That you consistently resort to it speaks volumes about you.

No, he loves numbers when he thinks they prove his point, and ignores numbers that disprove his point. It isn't a numbers problem at all...
