Default Virginia Beach area members, have a few questions

The wife and I are planning a beach vacation this year. Last time we went to Ocean City which is where i used to go every year for a long time. Neither of us have ever been to Virginia Beach and where wondering how it was. Basically curious as to what all there is to do there. Nightlife, attractions, dining, fishing, sports etc. I have ordered a vacation guide from VB but want the inside scoop from locals.

We don't plan on hitting clubs every night but would like to go a few times. Any nice nightclubs or bars there to go see live bands or listen to DJ's and get our drink on? Also what about good resturants, seafood, country cooking etc. I plan on doing some fishing while there and do the water park, mini golf, go kart thing. Any help or tips, advice on where to stay, eat or play would be very much appreciated.

Still not 100% sure i we will be doing VB or not, may do the drive to Mrytle too. We are planning on doing this on the week of July 4th also.

For fishing, google Lynnhaven Marina. They have fishing trips to fit every budget. Last time i went 29.95 per person for 4 hours over the bridge tunnel in the bay (equipment/bait included, you just need to bring your own beer.) They go up from there.

I've lived here most of my life... the oceanfront itself is kinda crazy. How old are you and the wifey?

For food at the ocean front I really like Tautogs and Giardino's but 15 min from the ocean front there is Virginia Beach towncenter that has tons of Restaurants bars and live music / dancing atmosphere.

The ocean front itself for bars / live music things get hmmmmmm a bit crazy. There is Peabody's which is the young college crowd with the local radio station support blasting top 40's music, Lunasea, which has corn-hole boards and a beach sand pit out back is mostly just a loud crazy dive. Heck all the places at the ocean front for nightlife are like that.

Ocean Breeze Fun Park (the water park, golf, and go-karting place) is fun but gets $$$ The water park is the best deal, but everything else adds up the Go Karting is really expensive, and not worth it in my opinion.

Lynnhaven Marina is a great spot for fishing as mentioned above. You can ride out on a headboat which hits up the chesapeake bay bridge tunnel area and aside from having to wake up really early you spend half the day on a boat and can drink (bring your own cooler), and fish in some good waters.

There is a great museum down at the ocean front called <---- click

The best seafood restaurant in the area is always debatable, but I like Lynnhaven Fish House.

The best club at the Ocean Front is Skybar on-top of the Hilton (but you need a pass, a hook up, or reservations at their hotel to get up there).

I highly recommend the Towncenter area for nightlife over the ocean front (but I'm 32 and don't like to have to scream to hear the person next to me anymore), if you like to "****ing RAGE" and listen to dubstep until your ears bleed Shaka's at the ocean front is nuts.

Virginia Beach has a lot to offer, and if you decide on it over Myrtle I can try to answer any more specific questions....

The wife and I are both 37 so not looking to dance the night away and get wasted and rave. Just like to hit the clubs, have a few drinks and listen to music. She is more of a sun worshiper spending her days on the beach where i like to do all the activities. Thanks for all the info i will keep it all in mind.

I would highly recommend making it to towncenter for Yardhouse, Keagan's, or Red Star Tavern for a night out. It's away from all the stupid. There is Catch 31 at the oceanfront, and Waterman's but both places have a tendency to get packed way too tight after 11pm.

would reccommend the jewish mother for really good food and some pretty good live bands. I haven't been to the new location but if its anything like the old place it is well worth it. Also for good food No frill grill ( its worth the drive to go to the one in norfolk and the atmosphere is alot better, and they serve good local beer). Unfortunately the virginia beach location near the oceanfront is just absolutely awful. If you prefer a more relaxed beach atmosphere you should stay near Sandbridge as it is not as full of no clue tourists. Town Center for sure, not as full of stupid as the oceanfront gets.I prefer gordon beirsch cause I love the beer they make and its very well priced. I like yardhouse as well but they are ovepriced as hell on drink prices. Real good food though. I hate nite clubs in general unless they are full of naked woman, which you can't get around here so I have no input on that. Best place for drinks in my opinion is unfortunately in norfolk as well, its called Bardo. There selection is fantastic and their tapas menu is ridiculous awesome. If your looking for a super amazing local spot, there is a place called Gringos at the beach. Norfolk ave (9th street I think). Best taco's around, the verde pork smothered burrito is ungodly outrageous good. Place is tiny so don't expect to sit unless its real slow but man its worth it.

when and if you decide to come to VB for your vacation, make sure to stop by the meet to say howdy. People (like me) like to do a couple of laps around your car to take pics while others like to oooo and ahhh at what you have done under the hood. dont be shy.
