Had this tune on my car for 3/4 of a tank. Was excited to get out and log a 4th gear WOT pull. First log I chickened out after I hit 95mph or so, the second I got it up there and then let it come down in gear as well. Took a video of the pulls too

I noticed the one knock event, I am pretty sure it was a reflector in the road. What do you guys think?

That probably was a real knock event. Nothing major, but other then that your logs look healthy.

I would get a few more logs (only if you can so safely) to see if the knock is consistent or not. You can do a 3rd gear run instead of 4th (not worth risking anything just to get a data log).

Was only able to get 1 4th gear pull, almost to redline. I also logged a quick 1st-2nd take off from a stop sign. Looks like there are still some knock events, plus its learning values.

I should switch to the 91 octane map shouldn't I? Probably the crappy HEB 93 octane gas.

The feedback knock in these logs is likely due to mashing the throttle and can be normal noise. The fine knock learning is a little trickier to determine when it was actually learned (and therefore under what conditions), but you do have a double count there. I would go ahead and reflash the 91 octane map and get some additional logs (if you can do so safely). Extended runs in one gear (3rd is fine, doesn't absolutely have to be 4th) are better than 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd gear runs.

Logs look fine otherwise - peak boost is a touch high, but not overly so.

Ok reflashed to Stage 1+SF 91 octane early this morning and drove around all day in traffic ~100miles.

Got my new Beltronics Pro 300 in the mail today so I was a bit more apt to go do some logs.

First log of the night was an almost to redline 4th gear pull.
Second log is a full 3rd gear pull
third is a full 4th gear pull to redline

The results have me spooked. 1: there is something going on in the beginning of the pull (noise?) second there is some fine knock learning going on. The last pull of the night had no knock events, but still some fine knock learned values, but they are decreasing. What's going on? Ive got another 100 miles or so of driving to do tomorrow so I will need to refuel by the end of the day. Ill make sure to get some good 93octane. Hopefully a little more time for the ECU to learn the new map and some good gas will prove helpful.

The feedback knock correction is likely just noise from mashing the throttle. The fine knock learning is harder to tell when it was learned. If you plan on doing any more runs, I would add the "knock sum" parameters to your log by going to "Set Data Log List" and selecting them. Don't be concerned with the values - they are meaningless in and of themselves. We just want to see when they increment during your WOT pulls (makes it easier to see knock that by trying to track fine knock learning). Cylinder 4 will usually be higher - again don't worry about the values at all.

In some cases, OTS maps just dont agree perfectly with some cars. But most of the issues can be solved by alot of smoothing to the timing maps, and polishing the fueling tables. A good E tune / Protune will solve these issues 99% of the time. The other 1 % is reserved for murphy's law!

Drove around town today again ~100 miles. Went to shell and filled up with 93 (had a little less than a 1/4 tank of the old fuel remaining). It could be the placebo effect but I think the car runs smoother on the new gas.

Went out tonight and did three more 4th gear pulls. I tried to start with a little higher RPMs (>3K ish). I also added the knock parameters you requested to the data set.

It looks like there where no knock events and the fine knock learn is decreasing. Logs are posted in the order they were completed.

Log 1 shows 2 knock events while logs 2 and 3 show no events. It could be that the new gas is better, but hard to say for sure. I would run through this tank, fill up again with the Shell 93 and get a few more runs, if you can do so safely. If we see any valid knock on those runs (anytime any of the knock sum values increments during the WOT run except near the beginning when you mash the throttle), then I would consider running the 91 version of the map while still running the 93 octane gas.

Also, keep an eye on the A/F Learning 1 A,B,C,D values. You don't have to log these - you can just periodically check them via the live data function. For 08+ STi, each value should individually be within around +/- 8%.

Thanks Bill. Its currently on the 91 map so I'll keep it there for now. Now I understand the knock count values. Should I reset the ECU learned values? I'll probably take it easy for a few days and run this tank almost dry, then refuel with the Shell 93 and do some more logs. Ill report back.

I ran the tank almost dry with moderate driving this past weekend and refilled with Shell 93 tonight. I took it out immediately and did three 4th gear WOT pulls in S#.

I added the fuel trim parameters you mentioned to the data log.

It looks like there was one knock event on the first pull on cylinder 3, and nothing else for the other 2 subsequent runs. Fuel trims look good too.

What do you think Bill, et al?

An occasional WOT single count knock event can be considered normal - after all, the cars can be driven under a variety of different conditions (WOT run after idling car at stop light with heat soak, for example). I don't think you would have a problem running the 93 map long-term, but because the single counts are slightly more than occasional, I would go ahead and reflash the 91 map. That will give you a little more knock resistance. It may be your local fuel quality is poorer than average or it may be that your car just responds better with a more conservative map.
