Default EVAP charcoal canister part number question, RE: P0442 code **hopefully fixed***

Im trying to solve my P0442, small evap leak code. Ive been scouring the internet for days and have been trying to piece information together. I already replaced the gas cap, thats not it. I also gave the engine bay a look over and there are no loose hoses as far as i can see. I am going to try to do an EVAP fog/smoke test. What is the best place to stick the smoker probe into? pics would be really helpful if possible.

In the mean time, I've been reading up on a possible charcoal canister replacement. I see two part numbers for the canister according to opposed forces....

42035SA000 - says "canister" when looked up on parts sites and is about $270 or so

42036AC020 - also says "canister" and is roughly $80

when i look up the latter on google, it indeed is a full canister. whats with the price difference and which one would my 02 WRX need?

Its called the purge valve. Right under the right side of the rear bumper. It's on top of the rear rectangle box.

well i hope i found the issue. i replaced the vacuum hose assembly that connects to the purge valve by the intake manifold. the hoses attaching to the well known blue T fitting were oversized when compared to their respective fitting, rock solid instead of soft rubber and some were cracked. and once i had it removed, i saw the T fitting nipple to be cracked. anyone throwing a constant P0442 code should consider replacing these first. the assembly is around $25 and my dealer had them in stock. it comes with the 4 hoses and the blue T. part# 22310AC241. hopefully this solves the problem. if not, the canister or filler neck is next.

new one...looks 1000% better
