Default Issues with burned discs in 11 Impreza Outback

Howdy,

So this started a few weeks ago and has gotten worse. Oh and quick intro would be nice I suppose.. I am a newby to sub-world (bought the impreza about a month ago) and love it thus far.

Back to my 'issues'.. So the cd player has been giving me the error message with burned discs. I thought at first it was the my fav disc Ive been jamming to. But alas I am working my way through a bunch of my CDs and its happened with all of them. Im 10/10 for the error message; I havent made it all the way through one disc without having to eject it. These are all burned CDs, with only one MP3 disc (all else audio). And from about 3 or 4 different manufacturers. I know I could use my iPod through the sweet aux connector but MP3 discs give better quality in my experience and honestly I havent found the stock stereo to be really great (Im not an audiophile but my prior car a pontiac 2002, was better)

I didnt see anything when I searched on here and google. Has anyone seen this before? My impreza is still under the 3 year factory warranty but I cant remember if this would fall under it.

Thanks! Im loving it thus far..

Do store bought CD's work? You gotta have one around the house to test out.

I will tell you this, if you turn the radio up like at ALL, the CD player will error out after a while due to the amp in the headunit getting too hot. I eject a disc after 20 minutes or so and it is hot to the touch, god that headunit sucks. I only ever use it when I am mixing my bands demos and I need a sanity check after listening to it on monitors and headphones.

Are you using rewritable discs?

Hmm I don't know about the CD getting too hot. This morning it spat out a CD after about 30 seconds.

No the CDs arent rewrite able. Out of my 15 odd CDs only one has made it all the way through

Either your laser is on its way out in your OEM unit or the entire unit is defective... It should have no problems playing any ol' CD that ISNT a rewritable disc. If it plays normal audio cd's that youve always had luck with in the past, than it certainly is a technical issue within the headunit. Try googling the error message it gives you...

If youre still under warranty I would definitely go speak with your dealer about it. Even in my 09 2.5i, the stock Clarion unit was a little picky at times, but generally very solid.

Thats what I was sort of thinking, that it was some mechanical issue with the player. Ive had scratched discs before but this something different. Like I took a disc I had just burned the prior day and it gave me the same disc error message within a few songs.

I will go to the dealership on saturday and see what they say. Having never had a factory warranty I have no idea if the 3 year warranty (its still under) will cover it. I did some searching and it seems it might. I hope they dont charge to look at it..
