Default Inspection Sticker Transfer to New Windshield

So the wife caught a rock and we had the windshield replaced.
When she went to pick it up the guy handed her a cut out of the old windshield with the inspection stickers on it and said "you have 10 days to get those back on the new window"

I've never had a windshield replaced where they didn't transfer the stickers for you. Any one know the best way to do this yourself? Can you just heat the stickers up and peel them off?

By the way, this is not fraud, I'm not taking stickers from another vehicle. I just don't feel like waiting at a shop.

When I had my windshield replaced, I asked the guy at the shop the same question. He pulled out a little torch, heated up the outside of the windshield. Sticker peeled right off and just stuck it on the new one.

tape the cutout to the new windshield, no one will know.

the torch thing sounds like it will work, but when removing old stickers, i can usually get them off in one piece through some careful work with a razorblade.

What a pud. They've always transferred them for me when I've had my windshield replaced.

Sorry, no suggestions here.

Just put a hairdrier on it, heat it up, catch a corner and peel it off and stick it on your new one. Should work okay.

Haha get this, he cleaned the inside and out of all her windows and headlights, and took the time to cut the stickers out of the broken windshield. I bet his torch ran out of gas.

I used to work in inspection stations here in PA (still have my license, just don't work there anymore). Go to any inspection station, and tell them you got a new windshield and need a new sticker. I'm not sure about emissions (don't have that here in central PA) but for the safety inspection, it shouldn't cost more than $4ish. $2 (plus tax, likely) for the sticker, and $2 for them to write it up. At least that's what all the garages around here charge.

The garages I worked in would just pull someone to do it, you'd only have to wait the amount of time it took to fill out the book, should be in/out in under 15 minutes. Just make sure to take your insurance and registration cards with you, they'll need them to fill out the book.

The same thing happen to me about 4 months ago. I took the car back where i had it inspected and they replaced the sticker for free. I had to give the old one back so they could destroy it .

Go in tell them you had a broken windshield.Give them the old stickers your ins and registration and its $2 a sticker plus tax..In a few mins your on your way legally..IT IS illlegall for someone other then a certified inspection mechanic or state trouper to remove state issued stickers for any reason...But the blow drier will work..just becarefull

Hi, if the sticker is made of vinyl material then it will surely take off easily and place it to new window on which you would like to stick it... On the other hand if sticker is made out of paper material then it will difficult to remove the sticker from old window to new windshield...

Wow.

If I were paying for the new windshield I think I would have said "wait a minute....I'll be right back". Gone to a hardware store for superglue and superglued the money to another piece of glass and handed it to them.

In most cases it is definitely the responsibility of the windshield replacement company to swap the stickers over. I would also keep a receipt of this in your car until inspection renewal occurs because the stickers are definitely going to look like crap.

In PA, it's every year anyway.

I doubt you'd be able to physically get your hands on the inspection stickers before they go on the car anyway, unless you know the person with the state agency/private garage.

i have my inspection license here in PA, if you have the windshield replaced and they were able to give you the glass cutout of your stickers, just go into any licensed inspection station, hand them the glass cutout with the stickers and tell them you would like them replaced. As long as the stickers are valid and not expired, providing that your registration and insurance is also valid, they will place new stickers on your windshield at a price of $2 per sticker by state law, they cant charge you labor.
