quick question, which of these parts are optional if you are not looking to do camera and satellite radio?

obviously skip buying a camera,

but do you still need all of these?:

(1) 10+6-pin reverse harness (w/ illum.-)
(1) 20-pin forward harness (w/ illum.- & long 3 SWC)
(1) 28-pin harness assembly (w/ VSS, r.gear, SWC, 16-pin>aux/mic)

(1) Subaru USB cable (to male USB A)

(1) GPS Antenna ($12) http://www.ebay.com/itm/231020270302...84.m1439.l2649 (this one Im guessing obviously yes, to have gps function)
(1) FM Antenna Adapter ($13) http://www.ebay.com/itm/400494961719...84.m1439.l2649
(1) Lexus reverse USB adapter ($10) http://www.ebay.com/itm/190850462942...84.m1439.l2649

mostly confused about the usb listed components on here.

Im in the same situation as you, 2014 wrx premium hatch.

going to be buying a 2012/2013 F10 head unit for nav but not looking to do the camera at this time, (maybe later?)

would it make sense to have all the wiring harnesses done for the camera now and just add a camera later or is it the same regardless?

Could you share the instructions please?

got all my wiring stuff from Dave, everything works awesome. BT integration, USB, Nav, etc.

a few questions:
1.is there a place on the F10 HU to hookup the old redundant chassis ground? on the clarion unit it plugged into a metal tab sticking out of the middle of the back, between the USB input, and all the other inputs.

2. I did not splice the VSS and reverse yet, as it was too dark out by the time I was done, however, I hooked up the stereo without that, and all the functions (including menu input while driving) seemed to have worked fine.

Without a camera, what effect is there on the operation without the splicing? And with the camera, how does it change?

Also, where did you do the the actual splicing? the 2 cables from the harness are pretty short, few inches in length really, do I need to run additional cable down the side to where the passenger kickpanel is, or is there a way in that taped up wiring to splice in there once unraveled?

Im not sure that you need a 'step by step' for just the transplant)

it was a matter of simply taking off the bezel, unplugging the old radio, and plugging the new one in (once you soldered up the matching colored wires on Dave's harness)

I think its the other parts (where you add camera, etc) that you may run into some confusion, as I did, with the splicing. However, I think even that, as evident in this post, can be avoided.

I just installed my FT Nav unit out of a BRZ into my 2013 WRX. Install is fairly straight forward. SVXdc got back to me in about two weeks after my initial email, and after I payed for the harness it came 3 days later. Keep in mind, he is in Atlanta and I am in Jacksonville, FL, so your shipping time may vary.

Splicing the harnesses together is a matter of matching colors together. It seems he ran out of wire for my illumination (-) but he marked it clearly and it wasn't an issue hooking it up. I used some Raychem environmental splices for my harness only because I have them readily available.

As for the GPS antenna, I found a cheap Forester Antenna on Ebay and mounted it in the stock spot. I didnt hook up VSS or Reverse yet, but on my test drive the GPS was spot on.

Also, when you read reviews about this unit from BRZ owners they talk about display lag and GPS problems, neither of which I have experienced. A big thank you to SVXdc, without him this wouldn't be a practical upgrade.

The antenna in the pictures I posted above mounts in the stock location, which is in the dash above the gauge cluster. All the other information you would need can be found here
