Default For those who like to do it in the dirt...

They are trying to organize another RallyX on Oct 27th in Orange, VA...

Details to follow.

(Blaster, I think that you need to get ahold of Kristie khaynes@su.edu - she wants to update the website)

OOhhhh, it will be close but the BRAT might be road ready (not finished though) by that date. The engine, radiator, fuel cell, shocks and strut tops are all showing up this week.

Kristie and I went out to Dave's place yesterday and worked with him on the course layout. We are taking out the trees in the middle of the course and adding two "chicane" cutouts to slow it down a bit (for safety reasons). We are going to keep cone use to the minimum but will have to use some to keep people from corner cutting and striaghtening out the course again.

If this event is a sucess expect to see quite a few rallycrosses in the very near future. Dave is very agreeable on the dates and even suggested that we run both courses linked together for ~2 miles of stage(!!!!)

Spread the word and get everyone you can out there, it will be a blast!

This original course is flat and relatively smooth. A street car with stock springs and decent struts can handle it fine. There are only a few places where you can hit anything and if you do you were driving so far over your limits that there wouldn't be much we could do about it..... We are removing the only large trees on the course so it will be as safe as possible.

The second course at Oakland damaged some cars because some large rocks got pulled out of the ground. We are going to redesign that section of the course to avoid the rocks and subsequent dings that were caused.

FWIW, I ran my brand new WRX on the first course over a year ago (with 1700 miles on it!). I drove over my limit, hit tires, cones, and bushes and still only put a few scratches on the bumper. Unless you want to have a flawless "showcar" I wouldn't worry, my car has been damaged far more on the beltway and 95....

I'm definately interested (if non-subarus are invited, that is). Just moved down here from new england a few weeks ago and haven't had any luck finding any events to go to yet. NER SCCA had a lot of rallyx events this year but now they're too far to go to Keep us posted!

The date is pretty much set, I don't see it changing unless something "unavoidable" happens.

As far as non Subarus, I have no intention of running a Subaru! It is an SCCA event and any brand of car can run, as long as it passes tech.

Wink About the rocks...

I can remember the last rally-X before the last when I was riding shotgun in Jim's car. We were coming down the main straight and he was well into boost when we see this football sized "thing" in the middle of the course. No way to avoid it, so we hear a loud SMACK, I know I was and I think Jim was also praying and hoping it did'nt break anything... Those Ruts are also scarey. Not to mention Jim's little "off-off-road" excursion that put a nice branch through his AC condenser...
I will come out to watch this one, My car would never forgive me if I ran...

Yes you can. Its an SCCA event so its free to be a spectator (just have to sign a waiver) otherwise it costs you to race.

Man, am I glad to have the opportunity to finally do something competitive with my WRX. Track days are fun but this sounds over the top!

God bless Dave(???) for hosting the event.

Obviously, I've never done one of these. Am I wrong in assuming that I don't need a navigator? And, can we walk the course before running, or does that go against the rally nature of this type of event?

You won't need a navigator although you can have 1 passenger. We also do a "drive through" before each session so you get one chance to see the course....
