Default 2001 legacy rear wiper problem

My 01 legacy wagon wiper seems to be making a noise. It just started this morning, the functionality all works. (Eg sprayer, motor, and blade.) but when I turn it on now it seems to groan and make an odd noise. What should I do? Take it apart and oil everything? Please help! 😢

Front or rear. I assume front, but first things first.

It's the rear, the font is working great. Kit out rain x latitude wiper blades on.

Sounds like it just needs a bit of oil then. The motor just sits under a piece of plastic shrouding. I have no idea how to get it off though. A bit of silicone spray may just do the trick though.

Thanks, I was just going to take the interior panel off. Then get the rear wiper assembly apart, and oil it up with lithium grease. Or silicone spray like you said. I looked at prices thinking it would be real cheap, but no they were 180.00$. Hahah only subaru

My wifes 99 Impreza wagon had issues with the rear wiper. The shaft for the wiper arm would start to corrode to the bushing that goes through the rear hatch glass.
Pop the cover on the arm pivot, loosen the nut, remove arm (straight pull off), run some 3in1 oil down the shaft & operate the wiper.

Worst case is to disassemble the arm & motor assembly.

Okay thanks, I will put some down to see if that solves the prob... The only prob is that a new wiper motor and mount is all like 200.00$ or something ridiculous price. That's why there are junkyards!

We bought a used motor/gearbox assembly for ~$70 off of Ebay for my wifes car (after my son managed to break the cheap casting that goes through the glass).

I looked on eBay and they're all really expensive yet, I will just go to the local junkyard and pick a motor up. (Or what not)

Try lubing 1st. When you remove the arm, there is a thin "E-clip" holding the shaft out. You can pop that off and it will allow you to move the shaft in & out of the housing a bit.

Just to let all of you guys know, I took my interior panel off my trunk and got to the motor and assembly. I took it all apart and put fresh silicone in the gears and shaft, this solved the problem and all is working great now!

Great, thanks for the follow-up.

My Legacy wagon rear wiper is fine, my wifes Impreza wagon has been having issues the last few years.
Not sure why that is. Last time working on the Impreza we broke off the casting that goes through the glass, so we needed to replace the assembly. Sigh.

That stinks, it's kinda making noise again...but it is alot less moose than before. I have tinted tail lights I want to put on. I will just fix it again when I do that.
