Bummer, i have a brand new axel that i ended up not needing. I'd just hand it over if you were closer.

Anyways, Keep the OBS stock. That ej22 will last forever. Im about to lift my old 93 impreza. And it has an ej18 with 320k miles. Save up and buy an STI. Keep that OBS though so you have something to drive during more time consuming mods to your STI.

I think that is what I will do. I think I will still paint it, and tint the Windows though. The silver/gold doesn't do anything for me...

My car hasn't even hit 150k yet... It's just a baby. But I think I have a problem with the tranny... If I slow down to say 5mph to stop for a red light, then it turns green my car takes FOREVER to get up to speed. It's like the transmission hasn't caught up to itself or something... Never had this problem in a manual....

Don't let Unabomber scare ya (Facebook stalking ). But he is right, you need to think about budget. Also, I see just too many people jumping into power mods when they are not building on a stable platform to begin with (bigger turbo and then fix the radiator leak???). Sometimes, one you price it out, it ends up making more sense to save and start from a different base...unless you like doing tons of work yourself.

Best bet would be to hit up a few local meets, and try to make friend with other drivers in the area, they will point you in the right direction

I usually drive sticks. and a clean title is always a plus. I seems like all STIs I see are mods already...
If you're looking for an STI with a clean title and low mods you'll have to do your fair share of looking here in Oregon. Lots of branded/reconstructed titles here. As far as prices go, they vary, but a clean title STI will most likely be over 20k. If this is in your price range that's great, it's not for many people though. I've seen WRX's with clean titles run down as low as 12k depending on mileage and it being an older model. Just be careful when you look and take someone with you who is very familiar with Subaru's. Good luck!

I commend you for wanting to do the work yourself and learn. An engine and tranny swap might be a bit much for someone at your skill level. Since there will be a bit of trial and error your car could be down for quite awhile. Like most people have said, start with a better platform and you will be much happier.

My current car is an automatic, but I prefer manuals and I have been informed that switching from an automatic to a manual would not be worth it. It would just be better to get a whole different car.

Any thoughts are welcome!

Thank you!
If you want to get a different car in a year, don't waste a dime on this current car (other than maintenance) and it will give you that much more money to spend on the new one.
