Dallas Raceway is an excellent venue and the bmw cca is a goodwill group of people. I believe they have gone to a completely online registration and payment system this season, so anyone who is interested should definitely make sure to register ahead of time.

All the local clubs are listed on: http://dfwautocross.com/
I run a black 2010 wrx and have run with every group except the ntaxs guys.

I am often the only subaru out there and wouldn't mind seeing more boost buggies at the events.

I haven't decided on going to the bmw event or taking a trip back up to okc for the first SCCA event there this season.

I'm signed up for the April 7th autocross at Dallas Raceway in Crandall TX.

Any other subys want to come out to play? It's a great venu, smooth surface, concession stands, real bathrooms no porter potties lol!

You don't need an expensive helmet...just an approved one. I paid $35 for mine.

They typically have loaners available as well

All the local clubs have loaner helmets available. DoT motorcycle helmets are also permitted (you can get excellent open face snell helmets for under $80 new).

Total n00b here, but I can't figure out how to register for the April 7 event (not certain I can go, but definitely want to). Looks like you have to be a member of the BMW CCA, but I can't figure out how to become one.

Anybody want to explain this to me like I'm 5? Feel free to leave hateful, berating comments about how I couldn't possibly have missed it.

For the bmw club events you do have to join the bmw cca (car club of america) and the only way to do that is through the national bmw cca website and buy a 1 year (or longer) membership.

All the other clubs have either a weekend membership or do not require a membership but bmw changed their requirements a couple of years ago (membership is like $40 and it gets you a subscription to Roundel magazine and select discounts).

For most of the clubs it becomes cheaper to buy a membership than pay the non-member prices after just a couple events (average break even point is 3 events).

https://myaccount.bmwcca.org/PortalT...EmailCheck.cfm

link to register to join bmwcca

cost is $48 for one year or $91 for two years

once you are a bmwcca member you have to register for the events at dlbracing.com

For the bmw events nearly all subarus will be in class "y" for turbo models and class "x" for NA models.

each event costs $35 and I believe you have to register and pay in advance for each event (they quit doing on site registration this season).

All bmw events are online only (registration and payments) and are capped at 65 drivers so you should make sure to register by Thursday the week of the event.

I went ahead and registered for the April 7th event and will be more than willing to show anyone the ropes.

Novices should make sure to show up before 8:30am and you need to find an instructor to first give you a ride and then ride with you to help you get your bearings (I enjoy instructing so hit me up).

Before the event you need to take everything out of your car including floor mats. You should also make sure your fluids are in order and your brakes are in good shape. You should also check your tires for tread and pressure.

Autocross is safer than street driving and an event isn't too hard on your car and ia the cheapest way to get into motor sports.

Thanks 14STU! I was having the hardest time figuring out how you become a BMW CCA member, but that's all cleared up now. Will register tonight if I can confirm that I haven't double-booked my weekend already...

My car's a 2012 WRX, only mods that I think would affect class are debadging and an STI rear sway (hellas don't matter, I don't think). Psyched to get some racing miles on it.

The bmw club and porsche club only class based on engine displacement (1.5 multiplier for forced induction).

The other clubs all use the scca classification system which is intense. If you only changed the rear sway bar you will still qualify for "d stock" class if you changed your wheels the next class would be STU (street touring unlimited) which is what I run in.

All the clubs have a novice class which is usually an addition to your regular class. Make sure to register as a novice (you get to be a novice for your first year of competition and gives you a much better idea of how you are progressing).

It's nice to see some more subys coming out to some autocross events.

The BMW club is pretty good because you get a total of 10 runs. However they get a little unorganized at times. Should be plenty fun either way!

I'll be in the #13 wrb WRX

I had a lot of fun at the autocross today. It was nice to see some more subys come out as well.

The next event that I will attend is the NTAXS autocross at the TMS bus lot on Saturday April 20th.

I just signed up for the porsche club's next event (Sunday april 14 at Dallas raceway in Crandall).

$35 for nonmembers they cap registration at 65 but allow walk-ups if they are still below the cap. Next weekend is also the pro solo in Mineral Wells so I don't think they will hit the cap.

Porsche club allows passengers and ride-a-longs (bmw club usually does but they were weird about it this time, I guess it just depends on which bmw club chair is running the event).

The local porsche club is the maverick region and to preregister you have to make a free clubregistration.net account.

Man I am sure sorry to have missed out on the fun. But with Cobb on Thursday, C&C on Saturday I used up all my car time for the weekend. I plan to be at the event at TMS on the 20th. Great pics of the event Mech.

Brandon - I see you added a little wingage, I like it!

Thanks! As far as the event goes, it was the first AutoX i have been to, and although i didn't run this time, there were a ton of cars there and the event ran very smoothly. The organizers were very nice folks. The course looked like a blast...it was easy enough for the novice drivers to pickup some serious time over their runs, but technical enough to upset some very honed cars and drivers. It was a ton of fun to watch!

OK, so that was awesome. I'm pretty sure I can make it out on the 20th, and hopefully my wife can come along. I'm not sure whether allowing passengers would make her more or less interested, though

I guess my weekends for the rest of the season just got a lot more booked-up...
