Default JDM V8 STI Transmission into USDM WRX - Wiring Q

So the connectors on the WRX harness don't appear to match with the JDM V8 transmission (well, one does but the other two do not). Has anybody tackled this and provide me with some guidance? A JDM service manual sure would be nice right about now... Thanks, JC

I'm guessing that you have the six pin plug for the DCCD transmission.

Your plug should look like the following.

1 4
2 5
3 6

1 and 4 are DCCD
2 and 5 are the neutral switch
3 and 5 are the reverse switch

Yup, I do have that 6 pin connector. I guess that means I have to hack into my WRX harness to make this work with the DCCD. Good thing the seller sent me the connectors! Oh, thanks for the reply!

By the way, what is the vertical blackk 3 pin sensor on the psgr side of the 6MT bell housing? It doesn't appear that a WRX harness has a mate for that sensor either.

Ok, So I just confirmed that I have the regular bulk engine-tranny harness and the connector is the same. Good there.

The black 3-pin connector I referred to in post 2 above required me to simply take-off the sensor extension from the 5MT. I am guessing it's the speedo sensor or tranny temp sensor or something... who cares, it will plug into the WRX harness which is all I care about.

As for the DCCD, why is there reverse and neutral switches? Shouldn't one of them be the handbrake switch instead of reverse? I thought that these DCCD's disengage when you apply the ebrake. If so, wouldn't you need that switch instead? And shouldn't at least one wire be a ground?

Nevermind, I just found the answer to my question:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ht=DCCD+wiring

There is a separate connector on the WRX harness for these neutral and reverse switches but on the 6MT, they come out of the DCCD connector. So, one can either:

1. Extend the 6MT harness by cutting the old one off of the 5MT and splicing into the DCCD harness or,

2. Simply hard-wire directly into the WRX harness.

I prefer to use a connector to facilitate removal, if required.

Bringing this thread back to life.

I just finished swapping a JDM Version 8 6 Speed into my 2002 WRX. It looksl like there are three plugs on the body harness right above the transmission. One goes to the rear O2 sensor, one needs to be plugged into the Neutral Position Switch, and I'm not sure about the third one, which is just hanging there unplugged until I figure it out. I broke one of the "walls" on the 6 pin connector mounted to the top of the tranny and plugged in my 4 pin connector into it, and it worked because my reverse lights come on when I stick it in reverse.

Any ideas?

It sounds like the "neutral position switch" connector you mention is actually the vehicle speed sensor. The other 4 pin connector that you forced into the 6 pin connector and got the tail lights to work is a combination of the neutral position and back up light switches on the 2002 WRX. The position you have the 4 pin plug in that caused the reverse lights to work should also be the right position for the neutral position switch wires. So either ghetto rig it up somehow to keep the 4 pin and the 6 pin connectors from coming apart or rewire your old transmission 4 pin connector into those 4 wires coming off the 6 pin connector.

Best idea is to get your hands on the FSM wiring diagrams and stop forcing random connectors together hoping things will work.
