Have a contract on my house again, last people backed out. If it sells I'm going to start looking for a place in Richmond to rent or buy. Hopefully buy, but depends if this company I really want to work for calls me back.

SO.....

You thought rally invented the fast 4 cylinder?

Think again.....

This is a 1.5L turbo 4 cylinder BMW motor from 1981.
Take a guess what kinda numbers this nasty bastard puts out.

Hint: this motor began life in 1961 and reached it's pinnacle in 1987.

Is that what they used in the Gruop B rallys?

Where they ran a supercharger and a turbo at the same time.

600hp-800hp

Here, maybe this will help you....

The turbo is a Garrett. It produced 79.77 PSI of boost in qualifying trim and revs to a max of 11,500 RPM.

This motor is truly legendary, no one knows anything about it? It is an almost magical engine in the motoring world, steeped with myths and folklore.

It goes from 450 HP to 850 HP in 1000 RPM from 8500 to 9500 redline in the rebuilt motor that won the world championship in 1986. that motor complete with car is now in Australia where the chap rebuilding it was told by "experts" that he would never be able to make it work. They even wrote the programming for the ECU themselves!

Imagine what the original could do with what in 1986 was only (lol) around 1200.

1987 brought on the 1300 HP version and in 1988 it was on the verge of being banned due to FIA not allowing turbos in F1, and boost was lowered to 4 bar and only produced 950 HP. In 1989 they were banned.

Turbos are returning to F1 next year.

1.6L 6 cylinder Turbo....

Won't have 1300 HP but it should still be nasty!

More on the motor. this thing produces nearly 1 HP per cubic centimeter. To put that into perspective, my R/C gas airplane has a 6.5cc motor and produces 3/4 HP or 115 HP per liter and runs off Nitromethane drag racing fuel in a 15% concentration. This motor makes 866 HP per liter. Nearly EIGHT times more. It's also nearly 8 times more than a new stock STi, which produces 122 HP per liter (which btw, is more than most Ferrari and Lamborghini's produce with their motors. It is very high indeed.) think, 600 hp from a 6.0L V-12 is still only 100 HP per litre. Our motors with similar power making abilities would produce about 2200 HP!

Legend has it that the BMW M12/M13 engines built for racing used blocks from old 320i's with over 62,000 miles on the clock. They then would strip them bare and sit them outside to be rained on. The engines were kept out back in the elements where the workers would go to smoke.....and relieve themselves, which they chose to do on the blocks. They would then, after a period of time passed, bring the blocks back inside to be cleaned up, stripped of rust and then turned into beasts. Someone got the bright idea that weathering and urinating on them would "season" the metal and make the blocks stronger.

This was reportedly told to media by some of the engineers that used to build these motors but no one really knows if any of it is true or not. No one really knows if they really used the blocks from high millage street cars either, though it is suspected that none of it is true and the blocks used were of course made new.

But none the less it certainly guarantees it a place in history and myth, though honestly, I don't believe it needed any help accomplishing that.......

The car: (then)

The car: (now)

So beautiful.....

Lastly, Formula 1 cars today produce only about 750 HP, Just half of what the M13 could do. They are 2.4L V8's, rev to nearly 19,000 RPM, and run on higher octane pump gas!
