If only I could trade in my 07 2.5i for one. But I like not having a car payment... For now

This is generally because the STi is unveiled ~6 months after the WRX in the January time frame. I seem to recall that's how they did it with the 2008 model year change.

It has been confirmed for a very long time that they are dropping the "Impreza" name from the WRX/STI model. It is becoming a separate car altogether.

Has no one noticed the lack of front overhang that plagues the current line? Isn't that inherent to AWD?

Too low and wide for me. It doesn't have that plunky little rally car style.

I also agree about the rawness of the vehicle... they seem to be getting heavier and larger yet small increases in power.

1996 WRX: approx. 2700pds 276bhp
2012 WRX: apporx. 3241pds 265bhp

Jus' saying.

Guess that depends on what demographic you ask. I'd bet if you did a blind study, most people would think Outback before Impreza when Subaru is mentioned.

They did this only once. Not saying it won't happen again, but it wasn't "generally" done that way. The '08 was the first time they were developed by separate teams.

A supercharged wrx/sti would be the worst blunder subaru could do. Its already very difficult to keep up the MPG with the awd system we have. This day and age is all about MPGs for the economy. Im excited for the new release and would be interested in trading in my baby to possibly upgrade to the new STI.

It looks good, IMO. Hopefully production will keep those short overhangs and high belt line.

Also,

1. Those are actual pictures of the actual car, not renderings.
2. Yes they are real pictures, not renderings, I know they look like renderings.
3. NYIAS doesn't start until the 29th
4. Yes it's the official, legit new WRX CONCEPT so the production car will look similar to that.

Not sure what to think of it. It is good looking but I have always liked the so called "ugly" look the WRX/STI have. If it's available in a hatch and gets better mpg's that would be great. I just don't know, doesn't really stand out nor look much like a rally car.

The PUBLIC days of the auto show starts on the 29th. Press preview days start today. We should be seeing this concept and a hybrid Subaru tonight or tomorrow I would think

Yeah from the Website they do not list a new WRX debut. Only the Crosstek Hybrid.

Potentially it's the topless BRZ that's debuting.

I believe the reveal is 11AM tomorrow. It isn't the production car, just the concept.
