Just do something to fix it. Sounds like they're being really reasonable. I'd rather have someone write me a letter than call the cops. I don't know what it's like where you live but in PA you can only have like 92dB or something before you're able to be ticketed. Also, they're your neighbors, don't start **** with your neighbors. It's not some jackass at the gas station, this is someone you will need to see everyday so it's in your best interest to keep things friendly.

Haha. The OT, always a good source for laughs. Guess this should have gone into the general forum.

BTW the TurboXS is no louder than a SPT exhaust, and I try to drive as quietly as possible through the neighborhood.

I would have just preferred them actually talk to me, you know like adults do to settle differences.

RFL's are much louder than SPT exhausts; unless SPT has a new bazooka exhaust that I'm unaware of.

To clarify, I wouldn't sit idling for a while, but I'd still roll out quietly.

I know that exhaust, it is loud. I actually think it exceeds 95db which is legal limit in many states, so it'd be nice to not have them call cops and get you on their radar. I'm actually one for thinking that we should be allowed our freedoms and most neighbors need to mind their own business, but if its way too freakin loud, and it's your daily driver... that's kinda rude. This is the main reason I went with the Cobb exhaust (its actually full tbe, but not much louder than cbe, just a bit deeper), its fairly quiet at idle but sounds great and rewards you with a great sound soon as the turbo punches. On top of that, I got in the habit of coasting slowly in neutral as I entered my street.
Hope this helps.
Oh by the way, if you did buy a new exhaust, the TurboXS should have good resale value. At least its not some loud ass eBay chinsy thing.

You may have preferred it but they don't. They don't know how you'll react. What if you were the type that would take this as a sign of aggression and then target them for retaliation? They don't want their cars, home, or loved ones in danger. If you said "No way, why would someone do that because they were politely asked to quiet their car down?!?", think again. Worse things have been done for less. Why would they risk that if they don't need it?

Problem is, the cold idle on the Subaru with the TXS makes it significantly louder for the first minute or so. By then the neighbors kids are awake. I have a catless DP stock STi mid pipe, and TXS (non RFL) axle back on my FXT and want to drive it into a median of dicks after 10 minutes. It's just too loud. 40 is too damn old to drive a car that loud, and I'm too lazy to go find an STi axle back (perfect sound IMO).

Neighbors are overrated. Warm it up in the morning and bang it off the rev limiter for grins.

NO really. I live in a community that the houses are very close to each other and I leave early in the morning like 0300-0430 it all depends on my shift. I have never had any complaints. I will say on a cold morning when a WRX starts up especially with an aftermarket exhaust it can be kinda rumbly. I usually let it run for a few seconds then idle it out down the street.

Good luck and be safe.

So now that you are over your indignation about your neighbors not speaking to you directly...what are you going to do?

Continue to complain about them not speaking to you person-to-person or make your car quieter?

Bull****.

And you're a child. Clearly. I don't know how old you physically are, but THAT is how adults communicate in this situation. They were right and good to send you that VERY polite note. Only ******** looking for a fight would bring that up to your face.

You sound like you're looking for that fight. I hope your car gets torched.

He said: he thinks we'd ENJOY this letter. This amuses him. He's going to ratchet the ******* level up to 11 and just keep right on going, making everyone hate him.

I predict a brick through a window inside of a month.

Gotta love the youth of today. "Can you believe a neighbor wrote a nice letter asking me to quiet my probably illegal exhaust down?" The nerve of some people.

Of the two parties involved here, the neighbors are acting more adult than you are. Instead of getting offended and using that as a justification for continuing to pretend like the world revolves around you, how about making a very small, very reasonable concession to the people you live near?

One day when you have kids and someone disturbs you or your family every morning w a exhaust or rock band or a loud fart. you will realize what your neighbor is going through. Worst case, they can report you when they've had it.

Wow ok, yes you do not know me. Yes it was a polite note and no i'm not looking for a confrontation with them, I merely suggested that there would have been another way to open communications with someone and vent grievances other than anonymously sending a letter, leaving myself guessing who I pissed off, considering I know most of my neighbors.

Second with regards to my posting here, i'm sure others could relate to my situation and as everyone here is a car enthusiast i would think people would enjoy and relate to my situation.

Finally calling me childish is quite ridiculous considering the fact you hope my car gets torched. You consider yourself a mod, act like one and stop inciting a war by your ridiculous posts. Good day to you.

Last thought, I have two kids, one who lives right over the garage, and they have never been woken up by my car in the morning.

I would do something about my exhaust if they wrote me a nice letter like that. Now if they key'd my car or something I would just take my exhaust off

Seconded.

Just be prepared for the consequences if it isn't stock quiet. Cause next time it won't be a note....it'll be a visit from an officer and a ticket for a modified/illegal exhaust.
