Can I ask what you're doing that early in the morning driving? Do you work that early or are you just coming home from a night of partying, hooning the car all the way home? I can't imagine your exhaust being that loud unless you're bouncing the rev limiter at 5AM.

Yup, I know I'm gonna go against the consensus of the thread, but the note reads completely passive aggressive to me. It seems like it's one person who is sensitive to the exhaust and is using plural "neighbors" to make it seem like more people are annoyed than who really are.

"A lot of us like to sleep in and especially during spring break week"

...do you live on a college campus with multiple neighbors on spring break?

Then the person complains that if you drive "very, very slow at minimum RPMs would not be so loud" (very odd phrasing btw), but also points out that even when the car starts it's too loud.

Then there's the whole bit about telling you to drive your other car like they know a little too much about what's going on in your household... Flame suit on, but I agree that whoever wrote the note might be a sensitive nilly who's never going to be satisfied unless your car has the exhaust note of a Nissan Leaf.

Kinda reminds me of that thread a while back about the guy with the stock exhaust who wanted to make the car quiter 'cause the old guy next door was complaining. Yeah, yeah, you're not stock, but I doubt any change you do will matter to the note writer.

I dont have an STI yet but I might be ordering a 2014 in a few months.
SO HOW LOUD IS THE SPT EXHAUST? I have a 2012 Harley DAvidson Roadking with stock pipes and its pretty quiet if I keep it at idle and when I work late hours I ROLL INTO MY COMMUNITY TO KEEP IT QUIET.

We used to have a kid in my subdivision who had a Honda with the big exhaust and this little idiot would get on it all night long. IT REALLY SUCKED!! He moved thank God!

This situation is just like really loud pipes on a motorcycle. IT SUCKS FOR YOUR NEIGHBORS AND IF YOU IGNORE THEM LAWS WILL BE PASSED TO RUIN IT FOR EVERYONE.

So please respect your community.

when i bought my CBE, and installed it,i thought it was loud as ****... and still is btw,

started the car cold , went to see my 2 closest neighbors, 2 people over 55 that have stop working, and asked them if this was too mich for them at 5-6AM.. they all said they were up and it was okay.

if one of them would have said no, i would have removed it the same day..

even at time it gets on my nerves... etiher i'm getting too old for this (though i love the rumble) or the exhaust has a problem and is desintegrating fromthe inside and is REALLY getting louder.

Like I said before my car doesn't wake up my wife or my kids, one of which is RIGHT ABOVE THE GARAGE. This is what makes me wonder wtf, is it really that loud or are they just overly sensitive.

Hell, my neighbor has a 70s Chevy pickup with a 350 in it that is far from quiet. I wonder if he got a letter too.
Which neighbor wrote the note IS NOT THE PROBLEM.

Give it up.

You do NOT deserve a face to face to talk about this. The car is too loud.

I wrote the note, okay? I'm Spartacus. NO ONE here agrees that you need to be able to "confront" the person who wrote it.

The note claims to represent the views of several neighbors, and I can certainly see why. A TXS exhaust is LOUD.

I'm glad you said you'd be willing to get a quieter exhaust. Do you have the stock catback still? Put that on. If you can get a quieter SPT or Prodrive that might be good, I had Prodrives on two WRXes and they WERE fairly quiet... but 5 AM is still ass early, and I don't know if it'd be quiet enough.

Here's another thought: park outside your neighborhood. I don't know where you live, but in my case if my car was loud I could park a couple of blocks over and walk two minutes to it. Do that until you sort out the noise issue.

So were you an actual soldier, in the Army? I ask because you carefully phrased it as "I deployed with the infantry." Also: every single soldier I know is MUCH MORE POLITE than you.

On the days I work, my car gets turned on at about 5:30am in my garage. Since my house is connected with my neighbors, my garage ends up underneath them as well. I have magnaflow cbe with cattless DP so it's pretty obnoxious on a cold start, especilly for 5:30am..

I was concerned that my neighbor might be aggrivated by the sound everytime I start it up, so i decided to be nice and ask him about the noise. He told me that he loves to hear the rumble in the morning, as it helps him sleep I guess I am pretty lucky

You've never heard it on a cold start haha especially in the winter. Also don't forget its very early in the morning. You can hear a pin drop. It is also a loud noise in a very small area, which is right underneath my neighbor.

Listen up. I have a story for you. I recently bought a stage 2 WRX. It's catless with a couple resonators and a watermellon shooter. It rumbles loud enough to hear in the next county without being "barky". But I bought this for my son. Already detuned it to stock levels, removed the stickers and ricey add ons and am picking this up tomorrow used:

It ain't freaking rocket science.

Third: You should do everything you can to mitigate the problem. If you are starting a loud STI with TXS exhaust at 4 or 5 AM and waking the neighbors, you are a dick. Quiet your car. My Legacy isn't quiet, but I also don't head out until 8 AM so it's hardly an issue... by that time, school buses are driving by.
This...

I thought it was very polite, and even though I own an STi and appreciate the sound of a great sonorous exhaust note, I too would be fairly annoyed if my neighbor woke up my kids at 4:30 in the morning. Regardless of whether it is spring break or not.

It sounds like they are trying to be very polite in their request. They could have just called the police... would that have been better?

Deer OP:

As someone who has dealt with a noisy neighbor for the past year and am going to be moving in the next month partially due to it; allow me to advocate for your neighbor.

Removing your hurt feelings from an imagined slight for a moment, please consider that you may in fact be wrong.

While you may not think anything about the noise, clearly it is an issue. I guarantee you that they are not waking up just to inconvenience you. Please keep in mind that even a sound that might not be overly obnoxious, can be a nightmare if the tone just happens to hit the natural resonance of, say, a bedroom window.

Having written notes like that, I can relate to what they were thinking. Personally, I usually sign them, as I do usually want to talk to the person too. But if they don't know you, they might have wanted to get the message to you without confrontation. Some people are, in fact, ******** (see: turboblunt).

RE: 'several neighbors' - Who gives a ****. Either they had another neighbor mention it in passing or it was made up to bolster their case or there are community meetings where your neighbors get together to plot your assassination. It doesn't matter.

RE: 'they didn't sign it' - Who gives a ****. I know you would like to reach out to them and possibly convince them that it's not really an issue. They didn't. They don't want to talk to you. They want you to know that you are waking them out of sleep. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. They don't want your apology. They want you to shut the **** up. They also don't want to confront you about it. Get over it.

In the grand scheme, your neighbor is the one getting the short end of the stick, not you. I'd much rather get an anonymous letter telling me that I'm being a jerk than to be woken repeatedly at 4 or 5 in the morning.

I won't offer you a solution, because I don't know the details and frankly don't care. The onus is on you to either be a decent human being and try to rectify the situation. Or be a douche and do nothing.

^ the typical solution to all of my problems. It should work perfectly in your situation too.

In suburbia, a little over a decade ago, I had the same issue. I lived on a hill at the time, so the solution was to park on the street the night before and roll half way down the hill before starting the car while rolling in neutral. When that didn't work, I resorted to throwing ninja stars into my neighbor's front door. It's not something that I'd do now, but it was age appropriate at the time... and I'm Asian, so it's not racist.

I don't want to start a technical debate on local ordnance nose level legality. In the city I live in, as well as neighboring ones, quiet hours are 10pm - 6am. It is your choice to have a modified car that is louder than normal, so it's you who's disturbing the peace. I know the last thing you want to do is slap on an OEM exhaust, but that may be what you have to do if you're not willing to park further away when you start up the car in the wee hours of the morning.

If that doesn't work out for you. Check out these links:
http://www.swordsswords.com/throwing-stars.aspx
http://www.extremely-sharp.com/throw...ns-and-spikes/
http://www.karatemart.com/throwing-stars?P=all

Edit: I didn't realize you were in Sacramento. I don't think these sites will ship ninja stars to you.

Here is my question why do people consistently post crap like this... do you think we are going to rally all around you and say things like “f your neighbors they should enjoy the noise of your car as much as you do!” I live in a condo with many noisy ass neighbors who wake me up all the time I have no sympathy for you.

I was home for about a month from a combat tour in Afghanistan and said neighbors decided it would be awesome to light off some fireworks in our complex with no prior notice. You could imagine I was out of my bed from a dead sleep like I was hit by lightning (or a mortar). Stuff like this effects people’s lives and you might not even know, thankfully for you they extended you the courtesy of a written letter vs. a nasty confrontation.

It seems there is a post like this in general at least weekly even daily with some ass hat who comes on here with something like this looking for either understanding or to brag and the community responds in kind. People should learn from the lessons of the fallen around them.
