That video is worthless. The Focus ST had a horrible lap compared to the GTI. Nonetheless, the new GTI sounds intriguing. The new active torque vectoring front diff sounds great. Unfortunately you can only get it with the performance pack bundled with larger front brakes and a worthless 10 bump in power. My guess is that they added the 10 hp to help justify the price of the pack. It will probably add $1500-2000 to the base GTI price. But maybe they'll surprise us. I know VW is hell bent on selling the most cars. It sound like the new GTI with PP will close the gap significantly on the R32. Maybe the mk 7 R will get front and rear active diffs. That would make for a nice handling R.

the MK6 looks so much better!
I'm still curious as to how the lower weight and little extra power will make this car feel.

It's a major update. Everything on the car is new. I think the transmissions are the only thing carrying over.

I looked at the 2011 GTI before going with the WRX, nice interiors, lacks room behind the rear seats though. But the lack of any get up and go made me look elsewhere.

Yes, I agree that the lack of power has been one of the main faults of the GTI. The other fault is the traction control that can't be defeated. But they have done a lot to address those faults. They did a press release test drive in Europe and everyone who has driven the new car said it is significantly better. Keep in mind the Euro spec has adjustable dampers that we won't get. But almost everything else should carry over. The handling/suspension tuning of the mark 7 was overseen by an engineer from Porsche. It has a new setting for the traction control that is much less intrusive. The new car is slightly bigger and has more interior room. But it is also lighter and handles much better, especially with the power pack and new torque vectoring front diff. The new motor makes more power and significantly more torque (+~65 lb/ft) and uses 18% less fuel. Some of this may change slightly with the US version, but they're saying it will be the least watered down GTI yet to come to the states. It sounds like it will be able to hang with the focus ST and MS3 in the bends, and be much closer in terms of straight line acceleration. And there's no torque steer.

Lots of positive caster? It's usually a good thing though.

Just got in my Car & Driver today, they tested this car and got some pretty good numbers out of it. 0-60 in 5.6 seconds, 5-60 in 6.3 seconds(that's quicker then the WRX or the STi they tested), the 1/4 mile in 14.2 at 100mph, and 70-0 stops of 159ft(That's incredible in itself).

We live in a time when a Mercedes has a far better steering than a comparable BMW. Plus the Mercedes has a screamer of an engine when the BMW is a torque monster.

I'm so confused about my sexuality.

Looks like a 90's civic hatchback. Great interior though.

Before anyone replies to me and gets all technical with different styling cues, my main point is I think it's ugly.

I think it looks great and it's on the menu for next car. Going to be a lot to choose from. Now have to wait on performance specs for the R.

Did I hear rev-matching downshifts from the GTI?

In the DSG form, yes, I heard it does that now. Or maybe it always did.

That's only because the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car!

This. If my job prospects pan out I'll strongly be considering an R as my next car.
