Default The $500 Project Car- 91 Miata

My STi has been feeling neglected, but this is what I have been working on. I got this 1991 Miata from an old friend for $500. It was dead, but came with a spare long block, new paint, new top, 949 Racing wheels, and some other goodies. I tore it apart and rebuilt it, learning all along the way. Pretty much all the aftermarket parts I added except for the wheels and catback. I am very proud of how it has turned out and loving taking this to work everyday.

The wheels are getting traded this weekend for some 15x8.25+15 DR54's with a 3" dish- cant wait

Looks great! The wooden steering wheel reminds me of my dad's old MGs. But considering the chassis was based on the MGB, I shouldn't be surprised!

Thanks alot guys. I originally wanted to fix it cheap and sell for profit but I fell in love with the car and decided to put some money into it. Its an awesome DD, quick, nimble, cheap on gas, and 18/mo for insurance.

I have had 5 different WRXs/STis and I was always replacing good/new parts with better new parts. This car is totally different- replacing old worn out with new parts putting life back into it. Much more rewarding sometimes.

Car looks awesome! I really like the color and am jealous of the new top and good condition body. I bought my 90 for 750 almost a year ago and it has been a long and slow process of fixing her up right. Mine had 170k and had been wrecked all down the right side ( just body damage ). She had blown the #3 spark plug out of the head and the owner wanted something quicker. I have the carbon fiber trunk lid, smaller steering wheel, and 195 15 dunlop dz101 tires on no name wheels. Shes a beast and nothing feels better than knowing all the work i've done on the body and mechanically making her sound (drips no oil and doesnt seem to burn any either).

Mine is getting turned into a track car. Just ordered a roll bar

Hah awesome. I did get really lucky with this car. My friend just wanted it gone. Any pics of yours?
