Oh really? You dont want meets held at Bartlett because it potentially can ruin your relationship with them for your Auto X events in the summer. Well thats understandable. I can respect that. Sorry

The problem is, regardless of the winter meets being held there, Bartlett will eventually be lost anyway. Elmendorf opened up a Warrior Transition Battalion, basically a rehabilitation facility for injured soldiers/airmen, right next to Bartlett.

Yep, so long ago. Where I met most of the the guys here. When meets were more of an impromptu kinda of thing.

Good thread. Nice to see everyone open up and share what was bothering them.

As far as the Bartlett meets go there will be high schoolers playing there every night wether we are there or not. If what you said is true and it doesn't matter if we are associated with the auto-Xing clubs then it would get closed either way because of the high school kids. There are many auto-Xers that go to the meets. I auto-x and I personally think its a good, safe, and controlled way to keep it off the streets.

Most in High School are bro trucks and even then I've hardly ever seen huge gatherings take place, especially in the hours people seem to commonly schedule. Kind of easy to distinguish a pair of high schoolers and a huge group of aftermarket subarus. Either way two wrongs don't make a right. You're right it's better than being on the streets but it's not like they care. It doesn't help anything if it angers them or a neighbor off enough that even legal events are discontinued because of it. There are plenty of other spots that can found all over Anchorage. You may autox but we all know how you drive on public roads, so you're a terrible example :-P lol. Out of all the schools, people decide it always has to be where autocross is held? Not the best of ideas to be doing things like this at a ASD location to begin with, but hell there are other parking lots.

When I met you, you were 17 and very sure of your "skills"... We all were back then. Let's not come down on our younger members too hard... The older members can be just as reckless.

AKIC doesn't sponsor or encourage any drifting, racing etc outside of scheduled, insured events.

If we want to discuss further let's take it to OT.

I really don't see how this is coming down on anyone, nor am I even coming down on him specifically. You yourself expressed a concern on this very same situation and unless it is mentioned out in the open, how do you figure that anyone will understand? I'm being as civil as possible with this discussion and one that needs to be addressed for the better of this community. You're right he's young and I'm not getting on him except for a slight tease, which both you and I can relate to. As well as both you and I have even had laughs about. Though we both know this being on a weekly basis does cause trouble and concern for what's going on. Where as before even myself at younger age kept things quiet (for the most part) as to where we were conducting our fun. Even then it was hardly where events took place. Bartlett was always a uncommon thing (maybe a few times all winter was it ever discussed) to meet up at years ago and in addition back then there was no where the traffic or attention.

Overall I'm just trying to have a conversation with him or others replying regarding the matter and explain not just my own concern but many others including yourself. We were all young and we all took advise at one time or another.

"come down" was a poor choice of words... I didn't intend to imply that you were taking a shot.

These conversations are good to keep moving forward.

It's all good, I just merely feel I have to be more detailed with my posts. Otherwise as before if I'm too broad it may come off the wrong way and I certainly didn't intend nor want it to seem like it's something that wasn't. I sleep 3 hours a day except on my weekends due to school and work, I don't have the energy for fighting amongst friends. So I just want things to be as civil as possible so we can all vent what we need to and put things behind us.

I'll have more to contribute later tonight and hopefully put in better perspective on the conversation from earlier this morning.

Hell I feel like I need to just host a coffee meet for those bumping heads frequently and so we can all just have a better understanding of things going on lol

Wait, so when did Craig/Kiwi leave? Did I miss something while being away? Kiwi was one of the reasons I ever joined AKIC, he is one of the first people that I ever met on AKIC, followed by TribalWRX and others that are no longer here.

It is funny that we went from the community on AKIC, to meets, to racing events and autocross, to Nomad's adventures and issues there, to issues that some have with Ralph, etc.

I'm not sure where we are going with this. I see why people Lurk....

And not sure about Bartlett. I can't even understand what Evolved and Granny are talking about. Feels like I just read a god damn poem lmao.... And Bartlett is a bad place to meet in the summer other than autocross. I see why we met there in the winter time, but in the summer, there are a lot more scenic areas to meet.

I'm trying to stay out of most of this but since we're resolving things, it's a huge pet peeve of mine when people use the word gay in a derogatory meaning. I know most don't care but it bothers me a lot. Nothing personal Wes, I know you didn't mean anything by it. I think it's almost time for another detail...

That is my bad. I should know better and I do apologize. I did not mean anything by it, the word is used a lot in a deployed environment and it is a bit childish. Thank you for letting me know

Man, you guys have been busy! Hanging out mostly in News & Rumors, BRZ Forum and FT86Club (and now i-club a bit), I've been wondering where these re-continuing conversations in other threads have stemmed from. Then I noticed this thread just now. There have been a lot of hurt feelings around here and it's been sad to see this cycle continue every winter, but worsening each time...

Anyways, my job's warehouse is still an open spot for people to get stuff done to their cars. I'm thinking about debadging "SUBARU" from my BRZ if anyone wants to join me for that soon? Otherwise we use it for anything that requires hand tools. It's got plenty of space to open doors wide and it's warm.

A lot of you already know and use the place, but just thought I'd throw a reminder up here. I'm weaning myself from AKIC, but I still care about what affects you guys. If you guys need a location to talk shop, I can be that avenue sometimes.

Agree with a lot of what Shag says. (been studying shaglatin for the last 10 years) I've been around for as long as I can remember and also have seen this happen during the ole AKMS day's. Something would cause drama bringing the board to its knees. Eventually the core group pushed through and didn't let the petty stuff rile our feathers, many times becoming a stronger group because of it. While I won't sit here and produce a wall of text on my thoughts for moving forward, I DO believe there is something to be said regarding the meet structure and the generational divide, and I'll add my proverbial 2 cents to the mix.

In the early years of AKIC (and what I recall of AKMS when I joined) the meets were centered more around chilling with fellow like minded people and getting to KNOW the person better. Many meets began at a parking lot chilling. looking over each others cars, BSing about current or future mods and what we heard someone in the states was doing. Frankly, not too unlike the "brobell" meets, just back then there seemed to be some unspoken rule that any douchebaggery would happen AWAY from the group. Often many times these parking lot meets graduated to cruising to (or just meeting at) Red Robin, Sea Galley, etc.. some establishment where we left our cars outside and mingled inside over a meal and drinks. Many friendships were formed because of that. people began opening up there homes to BBQ's and parties, gathering together for a Bears tooth movie night, or a night out at Koots. Sometimes people would organize summer drives meeting first in Anchorage then driving to Girdwood, Seward, Eureka, Denali, etc.. I guess... back then there seemed to be more of an interest in meeting folks and hanging out with them doing something enjoyable beyond doughnuts in a parking lot. And because of that, more found memories were made and friendships formed.

With AKIC on the "moving forward" trek, and AKMS now rebooted.. there is plenty of opportunity to create new friendships and new memories.
