2014 Maserati Ghibli: This Is The First Diesel Maserati

Maserati is planning to sell 50,000 cars a year, and the entry-level Ghibli is the model that can take it there.
The new four-door saloon will debut at the Shanghai Motor Show later this month as Maserati's first car in this segment. Available with both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, the 2014 Maserati Ghibli will be powered by two turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engines, one of which is the company's first diesel ever. All will be linked to the ZF eight-speed automatic which you can also find in the big brother Quattroporte.
No word on pricing or performance yet, but looking at the Jaguar XF's figures would be a fair guess.

As a non-native speaker, I have to ask. Doesn't this name sound kind of dumb in English? Cause it does to me.

Nice looking though. Seeing how everything in the luxury segment is converging to a single point in luxury-sport scale, this might be a breath of fresh air.

who copied who, with the same double-beveled trailing edge of the window graphic...

WRX Concept has a similar look, albeit not as vertically tall.

If the production WRX roof is higher, will the window graphic look like this Maserati?

That looks really good.

I doubt Maserati is copying Subaru.

Nice follow on to the original Ghibli. I'd be curious to hear the exhaust. The Maserati's I've heard on the road sound absolutely mean. Unlike the M3's or S4's V8, which sounds awesome when you get on it, but relatively sedate when putting around town, the Maserati's sound more like a muscle car just pulling away from a stop sign.

the lines of this maserati look more like a next generation infiniti to me than the subaru concept.

i think diesel in this segment is just retarded, these people wouldn't care less for a few hundred dollars a year saved in terms of gas money, so why waste time and performance to do so?

I stand by the fact that the only reason Maserati exists is for people who cannot afford Ferraris

Gas in Europe is over $2 a litre...do the math.

Plus diesels have more torque than their petrol counterparts.

TORQUE. Look up reviews of the GTD (diesel version of the GTI that the States doesn't get). Immense fun to be had.

Gas savings is just icing on the cake. Thick, thick icing in the real world (aka not USA gas prices).

Unfgh and ermagherd are the two words that immediately come to mind.

Yeah,

Anyway, the original Ghibli was a true supercar (IIRC at the time it was the worlds fastest car) while this is more of a GT. Either way, ermagherd!

How the front end is so flat, reminds me of the current BMW 3series

hahahaha.

I dunno, maybe the new F-line would look better from the driver seat. If not, the 458 would still draw me into the showroom.

Maserati offers a feisty alternative in that price range. I think that's a pretty good-looking sedan, reminds me a bit of the Tesla.

like i said, people who can afford cars like this can afford the gas that goes with it and doubt they care about the prices, in a performance car which this is hinting at or any maserati for that matter does , high low end tq and low hp ( compared to the tq) is meaningless , in a big heavy suv i get why that would be goodl , in a 4 door sport oriented..mehh.. porsche did the same thing with he panamera and when 5th gear reviewed it they had the same conclusion.. performance was lacking compared to the gas powered version. This wont be any different
