Doing anything more than an aftermarket exhaust on these engines with no tune leads to them blowing commonly.

Look up Enduring solutions ESL or Power FC for the cheapest ECUs.

And this means?? I have seen my share of blown low km 20K STi engines with no aftermarket tune. They had nothing more than intakes, exhausts, and front mounts with regular maintainence.

So have I. They are the ones that are usually thrashed with in an inch of their short lives.

i have power fc and its been the biggest pain in my a$$ to find someone that i trust to tune it, i currently leave in va beach and theres a shop that will tune it but all in all it was worth it just to send it to ecs esp being that someone can tune it and if they don't know the program they'll jack it up so talk to a reputable shop that knows the cars before to start getting alot of money in it like me so they can help you get a plan together and it you don't have a shop close by then it just gets more expensive and less in a sense. just depends on how much you have to spend. pay to play

The Power FC is ancient by current standards.

In the UK most people will either replace the ecu (Alcatek,Simtek and Syvecs but these are quite expensive but are very versatile from running road cars with a few mods to Time Attack cars).

Or they will use this one http://www.enduringsolutions.com/ which keeps the safety features of the OE ecu but allows you the functionality of the more expensive ones I've mentioned.

So may be worth contacting them to see if they can help you or pop over to scoobynet and search through the threads for ESL.
