At the Track AZP Private Track Event @ NJMP Thunderbolt, June 19

It's official!

You guys have been hearing us talk about going to the track for 10 years every time you come to the shop. We finally decided to setup a private track experience catered for the complete NOVICE running anything from a stock car up to a well modified one. Novices will have a mentor for the day and will get 3+ hrs of track time including a Track walk given by Aaron Povoledo who is a professional Grand-am and World Challenge Race Driver and Track Coach.

Requirements:
OPEN MIND, ready to absorb all the knowledge you can
Snell M Rated Full Face Helmet
Safe Car (Plenty of tread, plenty of brake pads, no bad wheel bearings, etc)

The day will start with a drivers meeting and track walk, then there will be classroom and track sessions for both Novice and Advanced drivers. We are limiting this to 45 novice and 25 advanced drivers.

We are working on getting Parts Manufacturers (Kartboy for one) to have us do some giveaways and we will have some AZP prizes as well!

You will get addicted to going to the track after this event!

More info and registration is open now at http://AZPTrackEvents.com

Awesome!

I am concerned about the brake pads and I see that you just want us to make sure we good ones.

But do we need or do you recommend we get track pads for this? I am a complete novice for the track.

For a novice OEM ones will be adequet. If you have enough meat on them. If not we would suggest the Stoptech street performance pads.

It is extremely highly recommended to get a track inspection done prior to the event at either AZP or another shop of your choice to make sure it is ready for the track. I will have inspection forms posted on the website shortly.

I'm running hawk hps with centric rotors but might be doing some dba rotors with the same pads depending on how much life is left on what I have now

Are you allowing cars of the non-subaru variety to join up? I used to have a subaru but just sold it....also the difference between your advanced and novice groups? I'll probably sign up for novice since I've just done a single HPDE in my M3 thus far, but I'd also not enjoy being stuck at highway speeds? Any info would be great, a private track event sounds much better than public hpde.

If you are attending our track day we'll do the inspection for you for free. We'll check over the car and make sure that the pads have enough meat, tires are in good order and general condition of the car.

If you've done a day or 2, I would sign up for either Novice or Novice Solo. Yes non-subies are acceptable, I will likely be there with my 335ix

The track walk alone is well worth it. Aaron is an amazing coach!

Thanks for the info! The fact this is private also means its ONLY going to be the people that register on your site right? There aren't going to be groups from NASA or PCA or other people using the track that we need to wait for and rotate with, only the various groups within your registration pool?

100% just our groups. Looking at about 40-45 novice, 25 advanced and 40-45 instructors total.

We will also control the groups so if we need to shorten or lengthen or combine groups we can do so to best suit the needs of the students.

I will be for sure, no idea what's around there yet - haven't started looking.

A well-lit parking lot would be top of my priority list (preferably one where I can park my car right outside the window of my room lol)

I've had very good luck with Wingate by Windham. It's not far from the track and the rooms are all nice/clean/modern. Free hot breakfast with room (not just bagels..)

Wingate is nice. NASA staff used to stay there. We use Wyndham now, which I think is a little nicer, but I would gladly stay either place. We've also stayed in the trackside rooms along pit lane at Thunderbolt, which are decent as well but cost a bit more. Personally, I think that tends to be more worth it for multi-day events when you want to hang out at the track and drink after the day is done. but if you have a really awful time trying to wake up in the morning, being trackside and hearing a bunch of Subarus roll in under your window might help

I've heard bad things about the Motorsports Motel. I think Quality Inn is only supposed to be marginally better, but it is notably cheaper than Wingate or Wyndham, which I think are both cheaper than staying at the track.

About 40 Novice, 40 Mentor and 25 Advanced. Trying to keep the total car count around 100 give or take.
