Default japtrix vs HP logic In south Florida

Im piecing together my car slowly. Dp is on the way so ill be stg 2 soon. I may or may not look into buying the vf52. Whether i do or not im thinking of getting a protune so that i have the option to run a more aggressive/faster map whenever i feel like it.

My choices are limited as far as tuners go and the closest shops that ive even remotely heard about are Japtrix, and Horsepower logic.

from what ive read they used to be the same shop and branched out into 2 seperate shops. If this is the case im sure both are equally good at tuning but if anyone out there can steer me in the path of perhaps the better of the 2? Who makes the best power curves? who makes the best maps?

thx for any and all info guys

I used to work at Japtrix for over a year.....never had I heard that they were part of each other. That being said, the owner, Roger is one of the best guys ever. Really wants you to be happy and takes care of your car. They always go inside the shop at night to lessen any theft....Hey it happens.

Japtrix in my book.

i get parts from machines, thats it. japtrix has always been good in service in my book although i do all my own work, and roger is a truthful guy. He will always make you a happy customer. Hp is alright if you want some honda guys working on your suby....

Ive heard quite a few people tuning their cars at machines gone wild and all have good things to say. They also have a dynojet AWD dyno which i personally prefer.

if you want a tuner and up and coming facility, check out olympic motorsports... Luiggi and julio are on point. They make a 400hp subaru seem slow compared to all the other cars they build...

I like Roger and Japrix.
Honest shop and good people. Their Mustang reads more like a Dynojet, but who really cares....

HP Logic are actually not "honda guys"....the shop can handle a diverse group of platforms with the focus primarily on the Nissan GTR, Subies, and EVO's....check out the "about us" page for more info...

Twentyclowns,
Just curious if you finally went with JapTrix for your tune and if you did how did you like it. Was it worth the price you paid.

I have called a few different places today and got quotes of
JapTrix = 500 (this weeks sale) includes dyno time and tune.
HorsePower Logic= 380 (still curious if I heard him correctly)
includes dyno time and tune.
and a New shop here in Orlando
Kings Performance Group Inc. = 595 (Ive never heard of these guys yet)
includes dyno time and tune.

Any advice on what I should do or where I should go? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

For obvious reasons, company's websites are biased. Meaning they trump themselves up!

Kings Performance are the people that split from Central Florida Turbo, Omar is the tuner I believe.

Jack at HP Logic tuned my girlfriends FP Green 06 WRX. He's a nice guy and did a good job on her car. 340whp for the past 40,000 miles, and still running well.

Thank you for the help, really appreciated. Believe I may give HP Logic a chance. The price seems good and I have heard some good things from them. Thank you for posting, didnt know that about Kings Performance... probably wont take my car anywhere that is somehow affiliated with CFT.

ill tell you what i wouldnt go back to jack if it was paid to...

I posted this info in most of the south florida threads on here and iwsti
Jack tuned my stage 2 sti at around 23-25lbs and as soon as i got off the dyno he told me quote "your motor wont last long but thats because subarus cheap pistons". Well he was right, after hearing so much bad **** about him i went back to japtrix once they got a new tuner (roger) who began to tune my car just tell me that something wasnt right. Low and behold my #4 piston was in peices.... so now i have a nice paperweight on my desk. I was 18 at the time, i was hustled. There isnt many good tuners in fl and i wouldnt EVER go back to jack. My motor is currently built by olympic motorsports and tuned by luiggi to.
i have papers to prove the tune and such to

Luiggi and Julio have the up and coming shop that always does right. The builds on suby motors have been pouring out of their shop. All i can say is they know what theyre doing. They wont steer you wrong, and they dont overcharge. Ive worked on subys with luiggi for a long time. Ive known him and Julio for years. The proof is in their own vehicles. They work meticulously as if it was their own. And the cars coming out of the shop are freakin quick. Luiggis STi is giving the business to 996s on 27 recently. Just do the math. If you want quality and reliability, and an honest shop check out Olympic.

^ not to bring this up from the dead but I have heard the complete opposite from Olympic. I have one person that I am trusting to be honest with me right now and he is going to look over the new AccessTuner software and we are going to decide what to do from there. Its either that or since there is not a good source for AP tuners in the area I may have Phatbotti do a couple of etunes for me since it looks like many people have used them and with great success. just my opinion.

(Oh boy, I better put my flamesuit on for this one...)

Disclaimer: This is based on what I have seen on friends' cars and what I have heard from repuatble people in the area. I do not work for any shop and I have no bias for or against any of these tuners.

Japtrix - I know many people who are fans of Japtrix and Roger, however I have had a couple friends that were VERY unhappy with japtrix. My Friend Rob had some work done a few years ago (around 2007 I'd say), and according to him, they did not check the fluids in his new motor, despite requesting that they check the oil/coolant before starting the car, and they blew his motor (Spun bearing) on the dyno. At the same time, I know a few people that swear by Japtrix and the general consensus is to ONLY let the owner, Roger, touch your car, because the other people that work there are not nearly as knowledgeable or competent as he is.

HPLogic (jack) - My friend Mark had his 07 STi tuned by him a couple of years ago. The car ran "OK", but I personally datalogged it one day and noticed the IAM value was down, which usually indicates knock events, and this may or may not be related to the tune.

Olympic Motorsports - Luigi is a very nice guy and he seems to be OK at wrenching on cars. However, my friend Alex had his Evo tuned by Luigi, and he kept getting a check engine light. We datalogged it with EvoScan and noticed lots of knock events under boost. A few weeks later, Alex's evo needed a motor swap due to detonation (i.e. bad tune). I've also heard of a few other cases where cars blew up after luigi tuned them. If im not mistaken, Chef's motor blew up after Luigi tuned it (Not sure if this was tune related or not). I can only personally verify Alex's case.

AWD Motorsports - They seem to be very good at tuning evo's. I have heard of them blowing up a couple of cars on the Dyno, but from what I have "heard" these were stroker motors on an Evo X. I honestly dont know much about their experience with Subaru tuning, so thats as far as I can comment.

So what is my opinion? I probably wouldnt feel to comfortable letting ANY of the above shops tune my car. I have not heard anything about any other shops in the area. I guess if I HAD to pick one, I would say Japtrix (although if you asked me 3 years ago I would not say so), but only if Roger was doing the tuning himself. Im really curious to see what the other shops can do (i.e. Slowboy Racing, Kings Performance, Machines gone Wild) because ive never seen a car tuned by them.

Ok, now I'll patiently await the internet fight from the tuners I mentioned. Sorry guys, but I am not bull****ting anyone here, I am speaking from what I have seen. Maybe these were "isloated" incidents, I dont know.
