Default A few signs that Cadillac's revival is taking hold

Autoblog: http://www.autoblog.com/2013/04/08/a...s-taking-hold/

Quote:
Only a flatworm would not have predicted the Cadillac ATS would help increase sales for America's erstwhile luxury brand of record; however, even the best automotive oracles didn't realize by how much: The ATS fueled a 49-percent increase of the brand's year-on-year sales in March, the sixth straight month of growth for Cadillac. The momentum helped push General Motors to post a 6.4-increase in sales in March versus 2012, leading its domestic competitors.

Dealership salesmen are among the first to register the shift occurring at Cadillac. A Texas dealer related an incident in which he helped a mother affix a baby seat in a car for a test drive, explaining that as opposed to the older buyers that are still a Cadillac mainstay he's getting "a pretty diverse group that's coming through the door now" who are "younger and better educated." Aided by incentives on the ATS, Cadillac's sales are up 38 percent so far this year, overtaking Acura as the fourth best selling luxury brand, and GM stock is benefiting with incremental gains because of it. Based on early response, the new 2014 Cadillac CTS should keep things going in the same direction.

The trend at the Wreath and Crest is part of a larger sales trend happening among domestics with other models like the Dodge Dart and Ford Fusion doing well and overall US car sales. Head over to Bloomberg for the big picture and role the ATS plays in it.

The Dart is doing well?

I still wouldn't touch a Cadillac.

Maybe they're counting fleet sales to rental companies.

I have been very tempted to test drive an ATS as it has done so well against the 328.
but I am still holding on strong to my boycott of any GM product.

I thought the Dodge Tard was doing poorly, actually.

I've seen one on the road.

And about 300 commercials.

I'd say that's a pretty good ratio, right?

I don't think anyone can deny that Caddy is in a Much better place than 10 years ago. Dodge, not so sure.

Maybe she could have balanced it on that carpeted shelf sticking out from under the bottom cushion.

Caddy is certainly better.. but still not good enough, IMO.

Dodge is using Alfa Romeo platforms.. too bad they're Chryslering them up at every turn.

There are a TON of ATS around here. I've never actually seen a new Dart on the road.

If the ATS is anything like the current CTS inside, that's a good interior. The rear seat design though... looks like the designer's were trying to be artistic and came out looking cheap

Cadillac is headed in the right direction. I just hope GM can keep up the pace. They are putting out a lot of good products these days and the only way people will notice is if they continue to do it. They can't hit a home run and relax. they have to keep pushing forward. The current CTS was a huge win for Cadillac. Hopefully the next one, now riding on the Alpha platform, will have lost a little weight and do more of the same...that was about the only drawback to the current CTS, it was overweight...as with many GM products these days. However the ATS is right in line with how much a car in its class should weigh. Hopefully the new CTS will be in line with cars in its class when it comes to weight. I see quite a few ATS running around in my area...but as much as they look different from the CTS...they still look similar if you don't pay attention, I could easily be missing more.

I haven't seen any ATS on the road (maybe because Michigan = 'murica?) but checked them out at the NY Auto Show last week, looks and seems like a nicely designed car and fairly inexpensive to start too. Not sure I'm sold on small displacement turbo fours for luxury cars but it's definitely the way of the world these days. Tons of turbo fours and that really crappy "frozen" paint at the show last week.

lol I've not seen a Dart on the road either.

I went into the dealership yesterday and asked the sales team when the SRT4 Dart unveiling is supposed to be. They pointed at an R/T model on the showroom floor lol misinformed.

SRT Dart unveiling should be this month at some point for the 2014 model year. Can't wait.

I've driven the current ATS and I must say that is was amazing. It was a short ride and drive but it was not your typical drive. It was at the Cadillac V-Series Lab where the year before I test drove the CTS Coupe under the same autocross track.

I will say there is some things about the ATS I don't like too much that Cadillac is steering toward which is the lines of the vehicle. I prefer BMW, and Audi over Cadillac. Although the Suspension is by far the best, Steering by far BMW – the ATS felt as little soft IMO.

Although before driving the ATS I did just get out of a CTS-V so adrenaline was still running through my blood.

If the car is comfortable, quiet, and performs well does it really matter what is under the hood? People who buy luxury cars aren't necessarily buying it for the engine. On the flip side, people who buy performance models from a luxury car brand aren't necessarily buying them for the luxury. There is a reason why the standard CTS got a 3.6L V6 and the V model got a supercharged V8. One exists for luxury. The other exists to propel a luxurious sport sedan.

Those of us who want the grunt of a V8 and a throaty exhaust aren't the typical luxury car buyer. We purchase things that are "sport" in nature. This is why the V-series exists. This is why BMW has M and Mercedes has AMG. There exists a group who want the luxury AND the sport. Unfortunately for most of us we seem to fall into a group wherein we can't afford the cars made for us . I would love to own a CTS-V or BMW-M, but don't want to afford the payments or the insurance.

I've seen a few Darts on the road and they all look goofy in person.

Haven't seen the ATS yet, but I like how it looks. Cadillac has been aiming at a younger market now for awhile, ever since the CTS was first released as a 5-Series fighter, they've just had a hard time hitting the mark. Looks like they are finally getting it done.

Are we all forgetting the Dart succeeds the Caliber? Compared to that it is a success.

I also haven't seen an ATS, but it is still a little too "mature" looking for my taste. I still want to see Buick's take on that platform or an ATS coupe.

Dart is basically a new Neon with a retro name, after Caliber fell flat into the limbo between economy car and compact CUV.

notice how nice the drawing of the dart looks in the commercial with its designer? and how f-ed up it looks in the metal?

Complete and utter fail.
