Default thoughts on the andrew tech PPG gears

i am thinking about getting a set of the andrewtech designed PPG gears 1-4 from andrew tech either if they have them in stock or get a set made, i have a 05 wrx and will be running a 18g and a FMIC and supporting mods, the gears will be the close ratio version, my question is what is everyones thoughts i have read a lot about the PPG gears and decided either way im gonna go with their gears no matter what. my car is going to be a street monster pretty much and i am pretty set on a close ratio style gear set, does anyone have these? if so how many miles on them now? and how do you like them? and what kind of difference have you seen in them as opposed to your previous setups with your trannys?

this is the gear ratio's im thinking about
3.08/2.15/1.50/1.05/ and the standard 5th gear

thanks

chris

Yes I did I spoke with Sam today, just wanted to hear how people have liked them after sometime. And how they are holding up and that kind of stuff.

this is not really the place to ask that type of question. you really need to speak with andrewtech 1v1 about this.

aside forrm that they rebuilt my tranny with ppg1-4 helical about 20k miles ago. i love the gearset, and mroe importantly i love dealing with andrewtech. But be warned they are noisey! even the helical

personally id rather have the sti drivetrain over the ppg gears. theres more to a drivetrain than just gears alone, that and the noise issue but both are solid choices.

Also, unless your dead set on getting a gear upgrade, i wouldnt really be that worried with an 18g (tune depending). then again i blew my tranny up on a vf39 so anything is possible. just know it aint cheap

Andrewtech is a great shop that does good work.

I actually play Online with Andrew occasionally, and he's a really nice guy. Just call him up and he'll help you out.

Yea I'm gonna use their gears I know that I'm just wondering about these specific close ratio ones, and everyone's experiences with them. Like I said I talked to Sam at Andrewtech today so I know what I want and what I plan on and he recommend the Andrewtech close ratio special PPG gears like I stated.

I have this gear set in my 2005 wrx. I have about 15k on them. The close ratios are a lot of fun. If I was to do it again I would have added a helical front diff and billet shift forks. I'm upgrading to a hybrid and a 2.5xtr on e85 in a few months and will be keeping the ppg's for now. Gears are a little loud and cause some interior vibrations.

Like any large ticket items like this I highly suggest getting price quotes from at least 3 reputable vendors for similar work and information. Maybe you are dead set on the PPGs specifically from Andrewtech which is fine so competitive shopping may not be in your cards. I still suggest it though.
