Why don't you just take it back to the shop that built your car for you and tell them the exhaust is too loud and you would like it to be quieter. If they can handle all the money you've already thrown at the car, not to mention the cash you put into your GTR, they should be able to handle this little mole hill for you.

Pretty sure they could handle modding a catted downpipe to fit your v-band as well.

Oh, and next time, don't be so butthurt when you come to the internet for advice that you clearly didn't have to ask it for.

Catless with straight through mufflers is loud. Unfortunately no one can really tell you how to make it quiet enough because only you will know how quiet is quiet enough. Is there a shop near you that works on subies? Maybe you can go hear some. Here are some options:

Have a small straight through muffler welded in the stock resonator location.

Have a cat welded in the stock cat or resonator location.

Which one you do is up to you. The cat will obviously improve emissions but will also hurt power more than another muffler. Probably no big deal. If it still isn't quiet enough you can get a quieter catback or put mufflers with chambers on (stock mufflers or other). That will definitely calm things down. You can also just do that to begin with instead of doing something upstream. Magnaflow and others make all kinds of different size custom cats and mufflers.

Good luck.

It's because this thread is a total joke boss. Are you serious or just trolling? Im convinced that you're just messing with us. "My built, heavily modified STI is loud..." well no s#%t it's loud...were you expecting it to purr at you? Slap some magnaflow or similar mufflers on it and stop whining or sell it and get something quieter/end thread.

Or what you could do is: create a thread about how your car is too loud for your sensitive ears, ignore any good advice you've been given and cry because people are being mean to you... Seriously dude hand over your man-card, you obviously don't need it anymore.

If only OP was as "hard of hearing" as he is "hard headed"

Speaking of Janis....check out Emily Armstrong of "Dead Sara" or Brittany Howard of "Alabama Shakes".....good tunes, great vocals, throw backs to Ms. Joplin. Respect from old guys like me. Peace Out!

You guys are being ********. If you can't help the guy then stay out of the thread. The only trolls in this thread are the tools with they jealous sarcasm. First you ride him because you were too dumb to realize he didn't post all his mods in the first post then you ride him for installing a mob that just doesn't work for him. The guy asked a legit question and not one that uncommon. We have all purchased something, installed it and didn't like it. He's not saying he wants it to be silent just quieter than it is right now.

OP I agree with the suggestion of the stock exhaust with a cutout.

Have you seen my m3? It's a 97 that I bought for $1200 wrecked and built it from there. And what it looked like when I sent it to the body shop for the final touch ups:

Your best bet will be a 100% custom exhaust. Make sure it has a cat and is a thick wall stainless to absorb some of the drone. A resonator in line won't hurt either. If you want dual, put the biggest OVAL body mufflers on it. Such as a couple Magnaflows this will help a lot.

FWIW I am 99.9% sure I know the OP from my past job in Maryland and he is a cool guy.

Somewhere in all of this there is a solution. I am still trying to figure out the problem. If OP got the cash then there's definitely a money fix for the noise. Perhaps he might want to check out the Stage 2 for Old men thread (that already exists) for some suggestions:

And to the guy with a $500.00 Honda civic with 4 different wheels on it you look like the rich one. Point being, just because the OP has a Modded GTR and STi doesn't make him rich or bragging about "how much money" he has. If thats the case the same can be said about you because you listed a M3 in your garage.

I'm proud of my m3 that's why I listed it. I have put more blood sweat and tears in that car then anything else I've ever done. Maybe listing it is a but cocky but its my pride and joy. He is some what bragging about his money, when told "buy a Prius" he said "I was thinking a8 but a Prius is better" and we all know the a8 goes for a pretty penny. I'm just saying, he didn't have to mention the gtr or the fact that he was thinking about buying a a8. He could just ignore all of us that are trolling but he choices to confront us. That's my point

So we agree common sense is hard to come by here? If something is loud, such as an exhaust, go somewhere and tell them to weld in some mufflers/resonators. The reason people are giving OP grief is because he wants to argue/ignore advice. It's not a hard concept, but so many people on here make exhausts hard.

You're right this question is not uncommon (from here forward referred to as common). There are multiple threads scattered throughout NASIOC about which exhaust is louder, which is quieter, built cars having increased NVH, etc. This common question is akin to "what oil should I use" in the sense that as long as it serves its function to you anything, within logical boundaries, is good. All you have to do is find out what serves its function to you, through research.
