Default why do subaru's get so much hate for loud exhausts?

i mean, i have an 07 wrx with an invidia dp and straight pipe. Havent been pulled over, yet, but i hear people all the time with other types of cars and loud exhausts never getting pulled over yet its like a ritual for subarus. for instance, theres a kid that goes to my school with a ford f250 powerstorke, louder than hell and he never gets a ticket. why can trucks have such a loud exhaust and not get a ticket?

I've never been pulled over for a loud exhaust.

Depends on where you live. Some areas have noise laws others dont.

It is area depended. Back in high school I drove a straight pipe vw and it was loud as hell but I never got pulled over, but all my Honda friends got pulled over even if they were quieter.
Even one time I was driving my mr2 turbo with 3" straight pipe off the turbo and my friend was driving a b20vtec ek coupe and a cop followed me, then cut around me to pull him over for a modified exhaust :P I was WAY louder.

I've just got the stock rear muffler on my bugeye removed so it's not really loud and cops don't look twice

Harleys are even worse. They're louder and more obnoxious than almost anything on the road, but they never get ticketed for noise violations. Loud pipes may save lives, but they also ruin the peace of living in the mountains where Harley riders love to take their cruises during the summer.

I loath loud Harleys. nothing says douche like twisting the throttle just because someone has their window down. or how about all the unnecessary throttle twists while walking back(backing up)

Personally, I believe a lot of it has to do with the unique Subaru exhaust sound, the rumble.

Think about it, if you're an officer watching traffic / sitting on a bike going pew-pew, you hear all different types of exhausts. The vast majority of exhausts, especially when combined in traffic, all generally sound the same.

This is where a Subaru, with an aftermarket exhaust really stands out, even amidst a sea of traffic. It's easy to identify a Subaru exhaust note; I can easily pick up a Subaru's exhaust note and not even be able to see where the car is.

From an officer's view point, they're always looking for something out of the "norm" or at least to extent. The exhaust note itself is unique and only exponentially increases in volume the harder you drive (crazy, I know); couple the already unique exhaust note with people who "love to hear their own rumble" and it's almost a rhetorical question.

Ugh.. if you have a straight pipe on your car expect negative attention. If you afford a wrx then you should be able to afford an exhaust, if not don't do anything and save for repairs. Straight pipes are for 16 year olds with riced out civics

And somewhere on a Harley forum guys are complaining about how they got ticketed, and those danged ricers in the Subarus never get pulled over.

If you have loud exhaust (no matter what you are driving or riding) you give the law all the reason they need to pull you over and cite you - could be noise violations, modified exhaust, whatever. Don't like it? Don't modify your exhaust to the point it will bother people and/or draw attention.

the subie rumble is incredibly distinct, both sharp & deep, and carries seemingly farther than most other exhaust notes. The WRX / STI also look the part, so it all adds up to greater chance of being noticed and profiled by the police.

While I agree they're annoying... it does help them out with the sound. Older people cannot hear AT ALL and I'm proof of that. In florida "Gods waiting room" I rode a Kawasaki ZX-6R, all stock till one day I almost got ran over by an old man driving a brand new BMW cause he didn't hear anything. I revved the **** outta the bike... still nothing. So.. bought a new exhaust and walla people actually heard me.

I got yelled at last night by my uncle cause i was warming up my car at 1230 in the morning to drive out of town for work.

I have a n1 and the rumble is quite loud so i didnt have time to warm up my car before leaving. He drives i prius i could understand.

In my opinion if my neighbors had a problem with me and my car they wouldve said something. I come home late from work every night and not a single problem, even in the morning.

I dont like my uncle he always complains about something but my car really. I shouldve just said "subaruuuuu" and left.

Imports + Loud Exhausts = Evil

Muscle Cars + Straight Pipes = Accepted

...Cops profile us. I blame the damn N/A Hondas and Nissans with massive exhausts for NO REASON.

You have to also think, how many non-subaru people do you talk with that have loud exhausts? If you talk with a majority of friends who have Subarus, and some of them have been pulled over, but rarely talk with any other brand/type of vehicle, then your sample size is very small. If there's one kid in your school that has a loud exhaust, sure, he may not get tickets, but that doesn't mean all F250's don't.

Little known fact. Harley's are so poorly designed that they have to throttle up every 3-5 seconds or the engine will stall out on itself even on idle.
