Default Issue with speakers or headunit

Weirdest thing just began happening a couple of weeks ago. I'll be driving normally either to work or where ever and the speakers will randomly just shut off. A faint *THUD* noise comes from the speakers and the sound is cut off. Radio is still on and my i-pod player is still on. The only way to reset it is to turn the car off, and then back on. It used to happen every ~5 or so car rides but now it's becoming more frequent. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

There might be a relay in the amplifier that gets reset on startup.

I'm guessing. If this exists, I have no idea why it is shutting off.

Speakers possibly? If it was the headunit, wouldn't that shut off?
