Alright, I know this topic has probably been beat to death, but as someone who just began to research this stuff yesterday I feel like I am DROWNING in acronyms. I just need a little bit of guidance.

Picking up a rust free 04 impreza today. Timing belt snapped, water pump failed, and it has a bent valve. A shop did the full timing kit before doing a compression test and finding the valve issue. It actually runs on 3 cylinders right now.

So I am looking at replacing at least one head already. I would like to get a little more power over stock, and not kill my bank account in the process. Is a head swap a viable option?

From what I have read, it will be best to find a 00+ 2.2. I would us its timing components, intake, and headers. I need to find a dual port one? This is still a mystery to me. Also, would I use the cams from the 2.5 or use the ones from the 2.2?

I really hate even posting this. But I am getting so lost with ej25(x) ej22(x) and "dual/single port" this, and "egr" that.

I really appreciate the help.

Oh and so people know what my goal is....
This is my girlfriends car. I may eventually lift it for her. I want it to sound nice and be decently peppy. We love the out doors and it will be used for hiking/camping trips. No autox or anything like that.
