Default Kenwood ddx-419 stupid bluetooth question

Hey guys I have a Kenwood ddx-419 in my WRX and so far its been pretty good. I've had it for about 5 months, no issues. But all the sudden yesterday the bluetooth didn't work. It reads on the screen "No bt dongle" which from what I read online means "Bluetooth adapter (KS-UBT1) is removed". I've tried unplugging the little adapter multiple times, no luck. It looks like this:

Do you guys think its the adapter itself that is the problem or something with my headunit? Can I just buy one of those cheap bt adapters and will it work the same? Thanks =)

I'd suggest throwing it in a laptop and see if it works. Update the firmware on the player also.

Thanks for the reply, yeah I tried putting it on my laptop and another computer, didn't work. It is updated to the latest version. So I guess my question is now is will any adapter work or do I have to get another "KS-UBT1" ?

It's a crapshoot.. you could try..

You might want to call JVC and talk to them about it... 5 months means it's still under warr..

It's unlikely any old bluetooth adapter will work. If they designed it to use a bluetooth adapter design that already existed (as opposed to creating a new adapter from scratch) you might be able to use a generic one that features the same chipset, but it's more likely that it will only recognize exactly the right device.

For the same reason the device from your head unit may not function at all on a laptop - it may not present an interface to the PC that it recognizes and has drivers for.

^that makes sense. I went to best buy today and picked up another bluetooth adapter, and this one doesn't work on the head unit either

Thanks for the responses, I'll keep researching and hopefully I'll figure it out

Another thing to note that I forgot to put in my original post, about a month and half ago I had the same issue where my head unit would read "No bt dongle" but after messing around with it for a minute and restarting the HU the problem was resolved, until now

I wish I could help, but I'm not sure what to do either. I never ended up solving this issue and I can't justify buying a new usb as they are pretty expensive online. I really wasn't impressed with this head unit, and I've been looking into some different Pioneer decks online and will be switching sometime soon.. sorry

Just figured I'd give an update on this in case anyone has this issue in the future. All it turned out to be was a bad usb adapter like I thought it was. At the time I couldn't find anywhere online to buy just the adapter (and I searched EVERYWHERE) except on JVC's website for like $60 or $70. But the other day I searched again and found a seller on ebay selling a ton of them:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/151104964771

Bought the adapter, plugged it in and boom. Worked perfect.
And also, any old bluetooth adapter will not work. You need the correct "KS-UBT1" bt adapter
