Default Low Idle?

Hello ive owned my 07 Non-turbo manual impreza for almost a year now and ive noticed that it idles at a very low rpm. 500 ish low. I asked around and was told that it could be that my fuel pump seal or the pump itself. Any ideas or has anyone else had this problem and found out any information on it? Thanks

Sounds normal to me, thats where my 07 idles, I wouldnt really worry until the idle is at like 100, then you have a problem

If it doesn't stumble and stall it's fine.

My 07 idles around 600. I found it low as well, but it's never lowered or fluctuated. Always a constant 600 rpm. Seems normal to me.

My 2.5L '98 idles around 600RPM once warmed up a little. Is yours smooth or rough? Mine is a little rough until warm, likely need to clean the IAC.

The 07 2.5i 5MT ecu idle speed table is set at 700 rpm once the water temp reaches a temp threshold. If it idles lower and the ecu had not been reprogrammed then there is probably something wrong.

Its worth noting that the tach graduations below the 1000rpm mark are not the same as above. The first graduation is 500 rpm.

The gauge isn't 100% accurate. Especially at low RPM ranges, it can be a couple hundred off. Stop trying to scare him.

It is quite accurate. Might lag behind the actual Engine speed on fast accel/decel when revving but it's close enough to indicting what the ecu is detecting that I can't see any error.

I'm not trying to scare anyone. This is not the first thread on this exact subject and it was an error in reading the tach gauge on the last one.

My 05 rs idles low...usually around 500 or so but then drops to as low as 100 and wants to die out...then it will jump back up...

Any ideas why...

Dirty/oil caked IAC?? That would be the 1st thing to check.

That sounds like its just the O2 sensors working, when does it do that?

Where would one find a cobb accessport for a 2.5i? I tried finding one already and had no luck and believe they were discontinued by both cobb and rallitech

Try cleaning out the throttle body. Usually oil residue from the intake manifold builds up and doesn't allow as much air into the engine.

I replaced both o2 sensors and still having the same idling issue. It only happens when in drive or reverse and at a stop, it will idle very low and high vibrations...

Next step is to clean the throttle body and try and see if my throttle sensor is acting up....

This started after I replaced my headgasket...

How much atf fluid and what condition is it in? Sounds like it might be a transmission/tq converter issue. I stress "might".

Mine idles at 500 to 600, but doesn't stall or anything. The boxer 4 can be a little rough on idle, same as in a 70's Porshe 914 I used to have.

Trying to scare him? As Race Face said, this topic has come up a number of times, and more than once the result has been the OP realizing that their car was not idling that low, it was just that they were reading the tach wrong.

What are you basing your gauge inaccuracy claims on? Stop trying to scare people.

Can you post a picture or video of the tach when it's idling? First with everything off and again with the a/c on. Make sure it's warmed up , too

My '07 Subaru idled a little low last year, and a bit unstable, but cleaning the IAC fixed it for me.
