Default RS Owners. Post your Tranny/Clutch problems.

I need some amo.

If you have had or having any REAL transmission or clutch issues, preferbly stock cars that started when you had less than 13,000 miles or owned the car for less then 2 years, Please post here the nature of your problem how many times you have been back for the same problem, how many times it was attempted to be fixed, etc....and wether or not it was fixed under waranty, and wether or not you are still experiencing the problem.

The thing I want to focus on is the infamous, Clutch Shudder and 1st gear problems.

98 - 01 RS ONLY please, 02 RS is ok too.

Please include your year and model, and be as exact as you can with your mileage, and the mileage the problem was at.

If anyone is willing to email/mail/or fax me a copy of an actual invoice (personal info blocked out of course. I would appreciate that too, I really need to get this all together by next wed. Please email or pm me for my address and or fax number.

Ya, I've got clutch shudder. Owned the car since it was new. Not sure when it first showed up, maybe 20k? Burned the crap outta the clutch and it went away for a little while. I had my independent Subaru Mechanic look at it. He said they had a similar problem with a Legacy GT and the only way they could fix it was an aftermarket clutch. However, he said my clutch had plenty of miles left on it and it wasn't hurting anything. It's damn annoying though. I'm not sure what the first gear problem is? Not being able to get into first gear sometimes? If so, got that too. Had it since it was new. Just figured it was me.

MY99 bought in April 99. Fresh off the boat with 10 miles.
Currently at 71500 miles.

Known issues: Leaking rear diff at @3000 miles. Currently losing 3rd to 4th syncro (gear grinds).

Switched to Redline 75w90ns at 10k, changed to Redline again at 30k and 60k no shifting issues till now.

mar 9 2002 sat 60870 miles. Swapped to Jun flywheel and Excedy clutch with new pilot and throwout bearings. Currently experiencing cold start clutch shudder. Old clutch was pretty well worn, almost no material left. Never had shudder issues with old clutch.

I still have the old clutch and flywheel and pressure plate (<-old school philosophy, figures ).

(I have complete maint/mod records. Let me know if you need/want them)

I bought my 2001 RS new. At around 14000 miles, it started developing clutch shudder. I now have 55000 miles, still on the stock clutch, and it still shudders at startup almost every time unless I rev to 2500 RPM and slip it a bit to warm it up.

I've taken it to two separate dealers for repair, and neither dealer was able to replicate the problem. I've got an aftermarket clutch sitting in my garage for the day that the stocker starts slipping, and I think that day may come soon.
