Default Vehicle check at Peoria Subaru

Hey guys, I'm looking at an 08 Legacy that's listed at Peoria. I'm 5 hours away in CA and if I'm making the trip out there, I'm bringing it home. Are there any shops nearby that are recommended to have it looked at? They are fine with me scheduling a third party to come by and look at it before I go there. Any help is appreciated.

FAT gets my vote. You should ask the dealer to do a compression test for you prior to coming out as well. In my experience the car would have to be taken in to another shop so you would need to do it yourself when you get here, or see if the dealer is willing to drive it over to the other shop.

Other shops in town I have heard good things about:
DynoComp
Goodspeed
UMS

I had a car I was considering purchasing inspected at FAT and they did a compression test, the numbers were low so I didn't buy it. Ymmv.

Good idea to get it checked especially anything that comes out of Peoria Subaru. If there's something wrong with your car they won't stand by their repairs or cause more damage to the car than you started with.

They want $200 for compression test. They also have no idea if the banjo bolt issue has been addressed but will gladly do it for $1000

FAT can do a full inspection (compression test included) for a much more reasonable price. Still debating whether I want to move forward or not. Missing service history between 17 and 75k.

I'm not a fan of Peoria Subaru. I went there specifically to try and purchase a Leggy a couple years ago. They completely ignored me for almost 30 minutes. I went inside and asked a lady if I could get some help and walked back outside. After 5 more minutes of waiting I just left.

Ouch. I don't know man. It's seems kind of sketch not having history for that many miles. Maybe you can knock some money off of the asking price. My parents never had an issue working deals with Trevor but we did buy 4 Subies off of him including when he worked at Camelback. See if they would let you take it to FAT.

I believe I talked to the owner of that car when I was looking. He was asking $15,500 which is more than they have him for trade considering the current sale price. I never went and saw it but the pics look good. It was listed on Craigslist for about a month then disappeared I assumed it had sold but I guess he traded it in.

$1000 for the banjo bolts? Say what???

yea, seems pretty ridiculous for something that should have been done as soon as the car came in. there was a TSB for it!

Tried getting some info from Power Subaru as there was a turbo replacement or repair listed on the carfax. Service guy would give me no information claiming it's not allowed even though I've done this previously with several dealerships in CA. Asked Peoria to ask (maybe more likely to share info between dealers) and his response? "It's the kind of thing where you are better off showing up in person with a pizza and asking the question." then he says he's got a guy working on it and acts as if he's doing me a favor by answering basic questions about the car.

Fwiw I refuse to go to a dealer ever again for anything other than parts. They just suck in so many ways. Never again.

A bit off topic, but I hear nothing but good things about the Subaru Superstore in Chandler, and the sales department at Camelback was great, but the service department blew chunks IMO. Peoria Subaru is terrible all around.

To the OP. Someone else said it, but no service record from 17k -75k is a definite red flag unless you can talk to the original owner (he may have done his own maintenance).

Also, is the car a CPO? If not, I wouldn't buy it from the dealership. That's my 0.02. Good luck on the car search.

What a douche. Have Kyle look up the carfax for you. He's someone you can trust.

I'm in San Diego right now and will be heading back to phx in the next 3 to 5 days (gotta find a ride as i helped someone move) and I drive by there regularly and can check it out, but I also know a tech over there and I'll try to get a hold of him and see if he knows anything about it. If you don't hear from me then contact japcarrealgood aka Barry.

Legacy

So, I went down to Peoria Subaru to check out this Leggy,
and for its age/miles, it's in pretty good shape.
I had a nice, but short conversation with Bob about the issues in question.
$200 for a compression test is normal, but a lil on the high side,
and teh $1000 banjo bolt job was rather amusing.
Being in Sandy Eggo,
here's some pix of things I notice that you might not know about...

...Missing clips in the rear fender liners on both sides, faded paint in the scoop (might buff out),
cloudy headlights (fixable), door dings here & there,
looks as though the 50-60% tread front tires have been rotated to the rear,
paint is chipped in the passenger corner of the hood,
and the TMIC has a dent in it.

In my younger days, I used to frequent FAT a lot,
and then I eventually was teh Manager for the year of 2010.
While I was there, I got to meet,
and befriended a good amount of the past Techs there.
Chris (former Tech for FAT) is now working at Peoria Subaru,
and I would trust him with any of my eleventeen Scoobies.
So, if you're interested in the LGT, I could arrange for him to handle the car, and no one else.

Let me know what you want to do and I'll set it up with Chris.
