Default New owner 2012 WRX - some Q's

Well, I just picked up a used 2012 with 19k on it at the dealership this weekend. I'm simply enamored with the vehicle. My previous cars have been a 3000gt, eclipse gt, a (swapped) 240sx S13, KA24de S14 240sx, and since this weekend, the car I was rocking for the last 5 years was just a simple 03 lancer es.

Needless to say, I couldn't be happier. I do have some questions and figured they would be best posted in the n00b forum so you wouldn't get those typical, "DO A SEARCH," answers. I did search many of these through google, but always prefer the input of a well informed community.

1. My car is used, it has an SPT trim piece added to the trunk. The dealership was unable to comment if the car had any existing mods. A look under the hood didn't show anything had been changed, but my exhaust is full of a nice throaty bass under 2k rpms. Would an SPT exhaust come with markings to note it is SPT?

2. I have a low pitched, supercharger sounding whine on 1st and 2nd gear under throttle. 3rd-5th you can barely notice this. At first I was concerned this was that intercooler to throttle body hose coming loose, but after listening very carefully and doing more research - this really appears to be transmission related. Should I bring the car to the dealership for further checking or is this just a normal natural whine from the transmission that I should get used to? It seems to overwhelm the spooling sound.

3. I'm not doing any power mods for a very long time, but is there anything can be done with the suspension to promote a tad more oversteer?

4. Do you guys have your tire pressure lights come on after the car wash too? What is the best way for me to reset this code w/o voiding warranty?

5. When should I see max boost? Would have been nice for the car to come with a boost gauge.

Well there you have it, I love this car and want to make sure I take care of it for years to come. Test drove a 2013 Genesis 2.0t and it was nowhere near as organic to drive as the WRX.

Thanks to anyone who wants to take on these questions. Feel free to even post links instead of answers, call me a novice, etc.

1. Yeah, the exhaust on the side should have an SPT marking on it and you'll notice the larger tail pipe. Better to just post a pic of it for us. But as mentioned, SPT trim on the trunk doesnt mean its been modified. Subaru supports SPT, hence Subaru Performance Tuning (SPT).

2. I have no idea on this, sorry. I'd say if you are still under warranty, bother those people until it's fixed.

3. I'd say do coilovers (expensive), if not, just get lowering springs and sway bars. Helps a whole heep. trust me.

4. Warranty, do it. I never had that problem. why not just fill it up?

5. peak power band on a stock wrx would be around 3300-4500 rpm, give or take a few hundreds. I'm not quite sure since i'm still running on my td04 (2008 WRX), i'll know around June when i swap in a vf52 (2009+ wrx)

6. When youre warranty ends- go get a cobb accessport, get a intake if you would like (optional). go to stage 1. have orgasms again.

7. Once tired of Stage 1, go buy a downpipe and upgrade to stage 2. enjoy and have orgasms again.

8. If want a little bit more but still reliable, go buy an inlet tube (faster turbo spool up), bigger Top Mount Intercooler (tmic) or Front mount intercooler (Fmic) and a ebcs (control higher boost a heap better and faster spool up) and finally a protune to get it all together. POWER!!!!! I'd say stop here due to power to money to power ratio.

As for the whining noise, that's our noisy transmissions. 1st and 2nd are really noisy. Good luck with the car, I'd like to see some pictures

What he said. I turned the radio off today and just listened to the car and I noticed that 1st and 2nd around 3K RPM or so is quite noisy, compared to gears 3-5.

Can't thank you guys enough for the help. This is by far and away the best/nicest car I've ever owned. Forum people both here and clubwrx are awesome, but I'm coming from Zilvia.

I almost even asked why the middle console in the car is able to slide up and forward, then I realized in a blast of epic realization - OH SH** - It's an armrest!

Surprised also by how quiet the turbo actually is, this will probably change as I get into modding later on.

Time to take her out for a ride!

Ok guys, finally got under the car and discovered on my rear wheels I have some Adjustable Rear Trailing Arms by Megan Racing. Since the car is used, I suppose the previous owner had planned ahead.

Strange, and also I am still thinking my exhaust is not entirely stock. When looking, the only noticeable thing resembling a cat was closer to the downpipe. Where I would think a Cat would normally be, there was a straight pipe marked SUBARU X8. I looked around and could find nothing on this anywhere.

Have done a turbo blanket and short shifter (not bushings yet) install and so far I really like this car.

Are you sure you want more oversteer? If you do, simply get a rear sway bar that is larger than your 21mm front sway. I don't remember the size of the rear bar off the top of my head, but it's a lot smaller than the front. A lot of people go with the bilstein strut + RCE yellow/black springs to firm things up and then replace all of the stock, squishy bushings in the chassis.

I believe the rear was 16mm stock. I second the bigger sways and RCE blacks. I have 24f/22r with the blacks and my car is nearly perfectly neutral. You just need a higher ratio in the rear sway bar to get a little more oversteer. Also I'd recommend the whiteline roll center kit. It replaces the ball joints and tie rod ends and helps reduce understeer. Give RCE a call

Thanks guys, I will take pictures of the undercarriage soon to see if anyone can tell if exhaust is stock, god forbid it has some things done and has been running without a tune.

Funny thing is I bought from dealer with 60k warranty and am finding mods here and there

Okay, lets see if this works. A few quick shots until I can get back under the car over the weekend. They aren't very close, but maybe someone can tell me stock or not?

Edit - Found this thread - http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2470579

It appears to be stock if that description is right - just a loud car I suppose.
