Default 2014 Chevrolet Camaro SS Revealed on Morning Television Show!

Carscoop: http://www.carscoops.com/2013/03/201...vealed-on.html

Quote:
Well, here's a new one; the redesigned 2014 Chevrolet Camaro SS was unveiled in the flesh on the Live show with Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan, with a Camaro5 forum member quickly taking some screen shots of the car that was in the television studio.
The first major redesign of the fifth generation Camaro since its release in 2009 brings a new front end styling with a sharper looking and much slimmer grille piece, different headlamps, a new bumper and black air vents positioned on the center of the hood.

At the back, the 2014 model features new LED (?) tail lamps similar, if not identical, to those used on the European market model.

There are no screen shots of the cockpit, but according to the person who watched the show, "the interior doesn't look like there is much of a change from 2013. It was hard to see, only about 5 seconds per change, but the changes are noticeable".

As for the powertrain options, according to a posting on the Live show's website, the Camaro will continue with the same trio of engines:

The 2014 Camaro lineup includes:
The 323-horsepower (241 kW) V-6-powered LS coupe and LT coupe and convertible – including the 2LS with an EPA-rated 30 mpg on the highway,
The Camaro SS coupe and convertible, with a 6.2L V-8 delivering up to 426 horsepower (318 kW), The 580-horsepower (432 kW) supercharged Camaro ZL1 coupe and convertible.

"First major redesign..." Are you kidding me, its' a mild makeover. Heat extractor in the hood and a new tail light design, maybe a massaged front facia.

The new tail lights are garbage, just like the ones in the new C7 vette. GM really dropped the ball there. Another bummer is fact that there was rumor of an LS7 eng option for the MY14.

Rednecks say the 69 camaro is the best EVAR!!!! Never change it man...
You have to understand who GM is appealing to.

It is staggering how the same company who makes the CTS and ATS makes this drivel.
This car contributes NOTHING to the world aesthetically. It is huge, and everytime I see one I find myself irritated it even exists.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, everyone knows Cadillacs are redneck luxury. I'd much prefer the guilty pleasure of floggin this car around a track, or a parking lot for that matter than be bored outta my mind in a Cadillac

Not saying the Cadillac is a better performance car, just saying the design theme and execution is so staggeringly different between chevy and Caddy. It is the same parent company after all. More quality should be found everywhere

guise. GUISE. Regardless of what GM says, this is just the facelift before the redesigned next generation; which will probably be another 2 years from now. I actually like it more than the 2010-2013 cars, but I am a little disappointed since there was a rumor about the LF3 going into the MY14 Camaro. If they do plan on putting it into a Camaro, I guess it will be the next generation.

Looks like the Z28 is a little more interesting... Linky

Quote:
This week the folks at Chevrolet have revealed the 2014 Camaro Z28 (or Z/28 if you prefer), a beast of a vehicle with a 7.0L LS7 V8 engine with no less than 500 horsepower ready for road-thrashing action. This machine works with 470 pounds-feet of torque under the hood paired with a six-speed Tremec TR6060 manual transmission. The look of the vehicle is all classic Camaro with a smooth-yet-sharp set of aesthetics for this years battle with the best.

Inside this next-generation automobile you’ve got a set of hardware that’s ready and willing to be compared to the more powerful Camaro ZL1. As Chevrolet let us know this week, you’ll find that the Z/28 is 300 pounds lighter than the ZL1, this thanks to a series of changes in the makeup of the car. From its lighter wheels to the thinness of the rear window glass panel, this car has been polished to perfection. Even the air conditioning has been made available only as a stand-alone option for your ability to keep the weight low.

Chevrolet has also noted that this 2014 model has averaged three seconds faster than the ZL1 in tests they’ve conducted thus far.

While the new Camaro Z/28 is not intended to compete in a specific race series, it is solely focused on track capability. In initial testing, the Camaro Z/28 is three seconds faster per lap than the Camaro ZL1. That extra speed comes from three areas:

• Increased grip: The Z/28 is capable of 1.05 g in cornering acceleration, due to comprehensive chassis revisions
• Increased stopping power: the Z/28 features Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes capable of 1.5 g in deceleration, and consistent brake feel, lap after lap
• Reduced curb weight: The naturally aspirated Z/28 weighs 300 pounds less than the supercharged Camaro ZL1, with changes ranging from lightweight wheels to thinner rear-window glass

Given that they only used a partial quote from the press release speech, you can't put the blame on GM until we see or hear the entire thing.

I know you loathe the car, but at least read the source of the article before jumping on GM's case.

Camaro copying Mustang again. See '05 - '09 vs. '10 - '12 Mustang update. "Squintier" headlights and grille opening and "WTF" tail lights. Frickin' GM.

Ironically, the problem with its aesthetics comes from the fact that everything on the Camaro was pretty much designed to LOOK AWESOME BRO without any consideration for ergonomics or performance.

It's amazing how much I like the Commodore but can't stand it's slutty cousin. I thought the Camaro was awesome when it came out but found it intolerable after spending sometime in one and think it looks ridiculous after seeing it for four years on the road.

It took me exactly 3 seconds to realize this was for the AWESOME BRO crowd. In person it's even worse. Such a terrible fate for a GOOD engine.

I spotted an SS today. The rear wheels/tires are massive and have the most aggressive offset I've ever seen on a stock car.
