Default Need Some Opinions on Tuning

Ok long story short. Ive had 4 issues with the same CEL. misfire in cylinders 1 and 4. after the 4th reflash my car has run very smoothly. except for the recent two events of long turn over interval when starting.

But any way, I drive the car like it was suppose to driven, spirited and pushing the gas around that corner. So i wouldve figured if my car had a bad ringland somewhere along the line it wouldve showed its prevalent signs already?

But Unfortunately im bord and want a catless DP and a tune. Car has 28000 miles on it bought it brand new owned for a year and 5 months now. I do a ton of driving.

here are my concerns= Blowing up on the dyno. the tuner I use for all my other work said that he has only seen 5 wrxs blow up in his 15 years of dyno tuning. Not really what i wanted to hear, but im power hongry.

what do you think I should do before I have it tuned to make sure the engine is in tip top shape? Compression and leak down test?

thanks.

Default Tuning

Ask members of your local forum for recommendations for a new tuner. The best results have been with experienced Subaru tuners. I do recommend a compression test and leakdown first.

Your local homies can help you faster than we can, they can put eyes on the issue. Quazimoto has a thread over in 2.0 power train that should be sticky on every reason why you might be misfiring.

1. your modded avoid the dealer
2. talk to whoever tuned the car
3. contact competent local homies

If you're looking to get a little more zip out of your car without a whole lot of money / time / concerns / etc, why not do the standard stage 2 mods? (CAI/Short ram, Turbo back exhaust, boost controller, fuel pump & Tune) I'm sure you will be more than happy with the car afterwards if you've been able to drive it mod-less for 1 1/2 years lol.

However, in your case, due to whatever tuning issues you had directly from subaru, i would have the car pro-tuned on a dyno, as opposed to using an off-the-shelf stage 2 map. (XPT, Cobb, etc) Not that I'm against standard cobb maps or using an off the shelf stage 2, but i am a fan of vehicle specific protunes, regardless of mods.

As far as pre-dyno procedure, the standard is usually :
Compression test (& Check plugs)
fresh oil
Smoke test (for any possible vacuum leaks)
clean MAF
Check for leaks

and thats pretty much it. Hope this helps. remember to stay away from the dealership once you mod the car =)
