Default What parts are missing on the STi/SPT spring/strut combo

I as selling my oe suspension as assembled, but am now gathering that the STi/SPT setup might not come w/ dust boots or the rear rubber pieces that go on the perch and below the hat. Is this true? Is there anything else that has to be reused (got tops already)?

If anyonme has part #'s for boots or whatever else is missing, it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Big Sky

And, just out of curiosity, how much would all the non-included ancillary bits cost if one were to buy them new from a dealer?

I got my SPT Wagon suspension installed when I bought my car. The dealer returned the stock parts, and the struts came with the dust boots, but did not come with the rubber insert between the spring and the strut.

It looks like a bunch!

Dust boots front- 19.93 X 2 = ~ $40
Upper rubber seat front- 17.78 X 2 = ~ $36
Just noticed there is upper spring seat (conical metal piece)- didn't get price

Dust boots rear- 13.13 X 2 = ~ $26
rubber lower seat- 9.52 X 2 = ~ $19
rubber upper seat- 16.95 X 2 = ~ $34

top nuts X 4 - didn't price (maybe come w/ set?)

Total (minus metal upper front seat) ~ $155 These are dealer quotes- if one had part #s- I'm guessing Subaru.com could do better (I would hope).

Looks like I'll be hanging on to said oe suspension .

Well coincidentally my STi setup just showed up. All pieces above mentioned are missing, except the front struts come w/ dust covers (rears don't ). They do come w/ new top nuts and new nuts for the lower bolts. The upper spring seat (coniacl metal piece) for the front struts does not come w/ the set. So one would have to add the price of those and then subtract $40 for the front dust boots that do come w/ it.

Price on the upper spring seats front are $14 each. Also a couple of additional pieces missing are the front spacer $6.50 each. The front "helper" (bump stop)- $1.50 each. In the rear, the helper (bump stop) $16.00 each- ouch!

Got better prices ar subaru.com

front assembly

front spacer $6.50 X 2 = $13
upper spring seat $14 X 2 = $28
rubber seat $12.27 X 2 = $24.50
"helper" (bump stop) $1.50 X 2 = $3

rear assembly

upper rubber seat $11.70 X 2 = $23.50
dust cover $ 9 X 2 = $18
"helper" (bump stop) $16 X 2 = $32
lower rubber seat $6.50 X 2 = $ 13

Grand total = $155

Those oe struts/springs are looking like they're worth more than I thought.

Well looking at this picture, it appears there is no way those oe "helpers" are going to fit the 40mm piston, evidently you don't use them (guessing front and rear both)- thus saving $35 over the $155- now $120.

That's a big strut shaft!

What can you use as a bump stop?

Big Sky
BIGSKY, the bump-stops/jounce/helpers you are referring to are not required with the STi inverted struts. Not only will they not fit on that larger shaft (hehe), but are not required because the sti unit has a bump stop built into the bottom of the strut housing internally. There was a recent post in the suspension forums that showed a breakaway diagram of the STi strut which pointed out this feature. A search might reveal the thread but i could not locate it from a quick glance. SO in any event, it seems that that is one less part you need.

Coincendentally, if you need stock shock boots, i have a full set leftover from my stock suspension that i would be willing to send your way for a few bucks. PM me if you're interested.

gotsol,

Yup, what Cosworth said.

Bumpstops are built into the KYB/Version 5/Prodrive struts. Inverted strut design, they're internal and on the bottom.

Peaty has cutaway pics of them, drop him a line and I'm sure he can send them to you. Or go to his www.scoobymods.com website and look up the strut install, I'm sure they're there.

Here's the part #'s front right 20310FE000, front left 20310FE010
rear right 20360FE000, rear left 20360FE010

Now the bad news- I ran these numbers through subaruparts.com and they indeed came up w/ the right parts, but they want $279/strut X 4

You can but the entire strut/spring setup for $1100- the math doen't look good.
