Default Don't Be An A**hat Brz Driver

I know this should be posted in the "Sightings" thread, so if by the end of reading this you (moderators) think it should be put there, please move it there. Sorry for the inconvenience.

BUT this morning I saw something that just needs to be noted. Driving to school today (UCSD) I got off the La Jolla Village Drive exit. There's two lanes to turn right, and I was in the left one of the two. As I slowed to a stop, I noticed there was a new silver BRZ in the right one, a few cars back. As he pulled up, I tried making eye contact with him, a friendly smile and nod. He looked at me, and gave me chin up attitude. My lane started moving so I passed him and turned right onto La Jolla Village. I got into the far left lane to turn left at the next intersection, at which point I noticed the light ahead of me turning yellow. He was way far back, and started to gun it. The light turned red and I'm sitting in the left turn lane and watching this whole thing happen. A full two seconds after the light turned red (which I know doesn't sound like a lot but in a traffic zone it is), he blows through the red. Opposing traffic was already entering the intersection, and he could have caused a massive accident.

I get it when you're getting near an intersection and you don't know if you'll make the light or not, but he knew full well he wouldn't make it and ran the red far too late than he should have. Even worse, this is one of the busiest intersections in La Jolla. I couldn't get a plate # because the car didn't have one.

If you live in this area keep an eye out. It's because of a**hats like him that we have high insurance rates and we're frowned upon. It's not cool, not smart, just plain reckless and dangerous. There were f*cking kids and their families crossing the street too.

To the driver, next time I see you do something so stupid you won't be so lucky. You weren't being cool, you weren't being a "boss". Even if you were in a rush there is no reason at all to do it. I don't care if anyone thinks I'm overreacting. Last summer, I nearly lost my life to some dickbrained jerk for this same driving behavior. 7 months later and I'm still in physical therapy. I have scars all over my face that won't go away. My hamstring is permanently damaged. All because a stupid driver didn't want to wait a minute more for traffic.

Don't do it again.

You got your panties in a bunch over that? That?

Pro tip: You drive a WRX, he drives a BRZ. Your insurance has nothing to do with his.

This A**hat is just wreckless and shouldn't be on the road. Lately I've seen really young teens that mom and dad probably bought them a BRZ/FRS and have done stupid s**t around town. Already have seen a few totalled ones, good news I'm sure the junk yard is filling up with plenty of BRZ/FRS!!!

I think any smart safe driver would get their panties in a bunch over this. Working for a 911 Ambulance company thats the last thing I need is some dumba** like this blowing through a red and taking someone or me out.

He didn't blow a red light. He was a little late. Signals are delayed for this very reason. I take it you've never driven in a real city. ie: Chicago, New York, etc...

And you're condoning the dangerous behavior? Why?

You're right he didn't exactly blow the red light, but it was past the delay. As I mentioned, cars were entering the intersection already, and had he entered the intersection less than a second later than he did, there would have been a big accident.

I grew up in St. Paul, commuted to downtown St. Paul regularly. Even though I go to school in La Jolla, I spend most of the week in downtown San Diego. I spent a summer in Chicago, but have never been to New York. Spent a summer in the heart of Los Angeles. So yes I have driven in real cities. I've seen fatal accidents happen before my eyes. I'm just more sensitive to it now after my accident. T-boned on my bike by 2 tons of BMW will do that to you.

I'm not condoning it, just stating that it happens at nearly every intersection during rush hour traffic. He just seems to think that Subaru drivers are above it or something. Old people, now that's a different story. People also need to be aware that just because the light turned green doesn't mean it's always safe to go.

I'll be sure to look both ways before entering an intersection from now on

I am totally saying this to the officer/judge if I ever drive through a red light and get caught or a ticket in the mail.

People t-bone each other and hit pedestrians all the time in NYC driving just like how the OP described. What's your point?

That kind of was my point. It happens a lot less around here.

And the messed up thing is if you were running code when they smash into you, it is your fault. It is just one of the reasons i have against driving code. In my experience it really doesn't get you there any faster anyway than the safety risk is worth.

You are 100% correct! That would be the upsetting part is if I followed all my safety precautions to clear the intersection and this A**hat in a BRZ is driving wreckless, I lose my job and gets sued.

a 2 second delay? I doubt it. He said the cross street traffic was already starting into the intersection.

Did you happen to just buy a silver BRZ?
