VICer chiming in here,

judging by a quick look at google maps, we're going to have to swing DOWN to Tacoma and then fish hook our way back up to the island-like area where it is? I've never been to Bremerton

I've never been to Bremerton before. In 2011 and 2012 it was held at Pacific Raceways.

There is an alternative route but that involves a ferry, I'm not sure which would be the best route.

Last year some of us crossed the border early in the morning, went for breakfast and then meet with the others who wanted to cross later and we all drove together.

Are people wanting to do this again?

As soon as you get on Highway 16 from I-5, it's a straight shot till the exit ramp to it.

This was actually my plan/idea initially. Wake up early, cross (to avoid lineups on a weekend), get breakfast in US, wait for others who want to cross later, and then head to meet.

Also since I'm tuned for our 94, I'm almost wondering if there's 94 all the way down without ethanol. I've not been to Seattle/ish with this car yet, so I'm not sure how it's going to react to the gas difference (though I'm actually told their 91 (if not ethanol) is just as good if not better than our 94.

*edit*: now that I look it up... it's like actually shorter than I thought (325 km, 3 hours 30 mins) says Google Maps, so at best, I'd have to fill up at least ONCE in the states.

I assume there's a bridge instead of a ferry? since google maps didn't say anything and the gap between that and the mainland looked quite small actually.

There's plenty of 92 around Tacoma-Bremerton area where I live, not sure about Seattle though. Also you'll be crossing the Tacoma Narrows Bridges to get here, which is tolled when your heading back towards Tacoma:

Either $4,$5,or $6 depending on how your paying for the toll.

I take it the "92" you have, is no ethanol? Call me whiny, but I wouldn't want to fill up with something I've never filled up nor tested my tune with. (not that I'm going WOT or anything). Also, I guess it's not Chevron past a certain part near the border, I suppose it's texaco that's good? (TIL: I'm an ameri-noob as I haven't been down for 5 years+)

ah $5 US by credit card. sounds good. I saw "toll route", and realized it was our main hwy #1... makes every direction (that's going into the states) I look up by google maps a "toll route".

Thanks again!

You could buy a couple of jerry cans and fill them up with 94 and bring your own gas.

Yeah, I realize that, however I'd rather not deal with the hassle of having to explain why I'm actually bringing gas with me, and having to deal with them sloshing around the back seat (the trunk is kind of useless due to sub and other junk)

US gas is better then van gas. I think their 92 is about 94 for us. Could put a lighter tune or octane boost?

a lotta tuners tell me for the most part, their 92 is even better than our 94.

That being said... I think I'll just fill, since my tune isn't the most aggressive in the world, and I don't think I'm going to WOT the whole way down.

In fact (slightly related) one of my pet peeves is people who can't follow cruise etiquette. Except not only are we probably going to have a large crew, but we're also in another country. Never been on a large scale cruise with VIC yet, but hopefully this turns out well.

Small things appreciated like
- Cruising at, or slightly above speed limit
- Stopping when signalled/someone lags behind
- Switching lanes when there's enough room for the convoy to switch over
- yaddy yadda

Someone care to explain why exactly an ethanol free 92 is better then ethanol free 94 here in can? We use the same rating and calculation system as the US no? I work in the oil and gas industry and work occasionally at chevron refinery here in burnaby. I'm just curious as to the difference. The type of additive? What exactly constitutes "better" less prone to detonation?

If you can, you should ask them or do sampling. Ive never seen the chemical difference but its welk known by tuners that US 92 is better in pnw then van gas. Also same difference why are gas prices change hourly while the rest of the country doesnt, but thats another rant for another time.

from what I've been explained. there's a few theories.

Since they truck their gas further in the states, they actually are a much higher octane rating so over time it still "meets" 92 or higher. this is especially true if you go to the interior of BC. their 91/94 is **** compared to the stuff we get, and you will have to pull massive timing.

the other is that they do have the same rating ron/+mon/2 (AKI) but it would depend on who did the RON calculation as those are often inaccurate.
