I chose the hatch because:

1) I had sedans for the past 13 years

2) I really enjoyed my previous hatchbacks, especially my 1990 CRX Si which my WRX reminds me of.

3) The hatch has a more euro look.

Utility had very little to do with it.

I don't have my STi... yet, but should in about 4 months, hopefully. I will most likely be getting the Sedan, and I will tell you why, before I ask a few questions.
My wife really doesn't like hatches, since I have had a few in the past, names a Mazdaspeed 3, and it really looks too close to that car. I think the Sedan really screams STi, with the wing and all.

Now if you wouldn't mind answering a questions. We are hoping to be starting a family soon, and I wanted to make sure that the sedan had the same room as the hatch for a child seat.

Thanks in advance.

For me, in almost all 4 door cars, I'll take a hatch. Hatches are just so much more useful.
Another plus for the hatch is that it's shorter than the sedan, so more space in the garage.

The only advantage a sedan has over a hatch is noise. With the rear seats up, you are isolated from road and exhaust noise by the seat's cushion.

I had a Speed3 and wanted something different. I love my wingless Sedan. Plus if I really wanted to drive something that represents a hatch, I'd drive my 2013 RAV4.

I'd also be afraid that something I'd be transporting would bust through the back windshield and they can obstruct your view too.

I bought a sedan because I could and I do prefer the sedan to the hatch just because it just looks complete at the rear end with the spoiler, the hatch looks like it has been squashed in..... imo of course.
practicality wise, I've had to sleep in my car a few times and it's then I wish it wasn't a sedan......

Exactly why i have my 2012 rav, great utility, comfy and drives super smooth. Fits all the junk i might need to put in it. No point in owning multiple hatches. The sedan is my daily while the wife drives the rav.

I can't stand the looks of the hatches at all, something is just way too off about them. Sedan all the way! And the back seats fold down just fine, you can fit tons of stuff in it...

I bought my sedan because it was most clean and well maintained wrx i could find. If it was the same car, but a wagon i still would have bought it. But if I really think about it, I'm a high school student and don't have too much of a need for the extra space.

I started out with a WRX hatch and I'm upgrading to an STI sedan. I wanted a change and think the new sedans look damn good. Nothing again my hatch it has treated me amazing.

Hate hatches and wagons with a passion. Sedans have cleaner lines, and I hate the frumpy rear and the roof drop-off look of a hatch. IMHO, cars look incomplete without a trunk. Wife has a whale-ish Murano for utility, and I also find my friend's 5-door WRX to be more boomy on the interior with less between driver and exhaust (we have the same exhaust).

People aren't gonna like this post, oh well. That said, I do find the WRX/STI hatch to be more tolerable in looks than other "sport wagons". What got me out in the dealer in the first place was the return of the STI sedan.

I was dead set on a hatch until the dealer had a sedan equipped exactly how I wanted. I traded in a Protege 5, so I know the virtues of a hatch. After 3 months of owning the sedan I am more than happy. The only things that have been in the trunk are groceries. I have also had multiple non-subaru fanboys tell me they are glad I got the sedan, it looks more grown up ( if that's possible in a WRX )

I bought hatch because there was no sedan in 2009. If I was buying a STI now I would consider the Sedan if it didn't have that huge spoiler.

I was set on getting the sedan because i think it just looks way better, but when my car came in i started looking at the hatch again and saw that insurance was about 25% cheaper asked the dealer if i could take the hatch instead. Well long story short it was sold and i'm stuck with the sedan

I bought the sedan because I didn't like the look of the hatch. However, after owning the sedan for about a year, and trying to transport things like 4 tires, luggage, etc. It became apparent that the hatch has a LOT more functionality...

Not to mention one of my co-workers bought a hatch and the style has been growing on me. I don't have buyer's remorse or anything, I love my sedan. I think that if I was to buy another one, I would strongly consider the hatch based on utility.

Mine was the opposite, my wife didn't like the hatch, so I got the sedan.
We agreed that if I used our tax return to get my wrx it would have to be a sedan (I don't know why she didn't like the hatch). In the end, next year she gets to use the tax return to get a boob job. win win for me
