Default 2013 WRX Stock turbo silencer ring

Can you remove it? If so, how do you?

Yes. I'm not sure I have the proper name, but I want to hear the turbo spool more, without installing an intake. I know on the older subies it was called a snorkel delete.

On diesel trucks, there's an actual metal ring on the turbo itself which quiets it. Older turbo subarus had a snorkus, or series of plastic ducts and chambers, which accomplished the same.

For more sound, an intake, turbo inlet pipe, and downpipe will do the trick pretty well.

Okay so do the new wrx's have these snorkels?

Correct me if I'm wrong but 11-12s don't have the snorkus. I know my 12 doesn't.

GE/GH Impreza has snorkus (an empty "bottle" resonator attached to bottom of airbox), GE/GH/GR/GV WRX model does not. STI GR/GV models does have the snorkus/resonator.

On a WRX you can cut out the solid hole where the bottle would go(or get an STI/Impreza stock airbox with the hole for the bottle in it), and enjoy a little more turbo noise. But you also get an intake drone under some throttle/RPM conditions. Some people don't care about that. For me, I did this long ago in my 09 WRX and reversed it, there is a reason they tune out the drone in the stock intake, its annoying.

STI GR/GV model does not have the "snorkus" as you say, theyre intake is exactly like the WRX GR/GV model. no snorkel at all

I believe he's talking about one of these? AFAIK Subaru doesn't use them.

The 11+ STI DOES have the giant white jug under the intake in the fender. The 11+ WRX DOES NOT have the jug, as previously stated.

FWIW, I am 99.99% sure this is correct. Last time I was under the hood, looking in that area, I do recall seeing it.

08+ STI does have the resonator "jug" under the airbox, WRX does not. They are not "exactly the same"

That applies to back to 08+ the STI has jug, WRX does not. To be complete, the non-turbo models also have the jug.

Yeah it's not immediately obvious you'd have to remove the airbox to notice it anyways. Don't think it makes a difference either way, the cool air comes through the top, the jug is just there to add volume to tune resonance. It is interesting how they didn't need to use it on the WRX, all the similar models like STI and the turbo Legacies generally have it.

Hmm... So the jug adds volume? Has anyone tried to put the STI intake into the WRX...? Is the jug the only difference...?
