Exclamation I love people that don;t know anything about cars and think they do (ricer story)

who don;t know anything about cars or common sense laws of nature anyway...

I was looking through my yearbook earlier today (c/o 1997 in Hawaii.. the rice capitol) and came across a picture of a Honda racer I used to know. Anyway, it got me thinking of something he told me once that had me laughing my ass off right in the middle of Alg. II.

I asked him "Why do you get those little yellow PIAA driving lights for your car???"

And his reply was "Because yellow light travels faster than white light and I sometimes catch upto my headlights when driving fast"

AND HE WAS SERIOUS!!!

So, I guess Honda's really can travel the speed of light (white light at least )

So, what bogus info have you herd from people???

Eric

This guy with a Firebird used to jack up his car and rotate
the wheels so all the Firebird emblems on the wheels
would all be right-side up. I asked him why he did that...
are you just getting them ready to take a picture? He said
no, so they will stay all lined up when I drive.

I had a friend who was the biggest liar that ever lived. I always thought he might grow out of it, but he never did. He used to tell us all that his dads buick regal had a supercharged Corvette engine in it! And he was serious.

Well fast foward to present time, here comes his younger brother. Hes illiterate, and he is as big a liar as his brother was. He has an old Mustang, a real POS. After telling me he heard my car is slow he takes me for a ride in his Rustang. The damn thing is horrendously slow, like it is either a 6 cylinder, or there is something really wrong with it. The exhuast is so loud he gets pulled over by a beat cop standing in the road and gets a ticket, but for speeding. I am laughing inside, he tried to tell the cop he just go new racing pedals and FOOT GOT STUCK WITH THE GAS PINNED DOWN! Yeah like the cop was born yesterday.

The next time I saw him he told me his car had a 5.7 liter supercharged engine in it, and NOS!!! He must have forgot he took me for a ride in it. I told him to open the hood but he wouldn't, he said the hood was stuck closed bla bla. I had to just walk away.

A friend of mine in high school, had a 240sx mid 90's style. he got in an accident and said that while it was in the shop, he had them just slap on another turbo. So i was like, you don't have 1 turbo, let alone 2!
so we go for a ride, the car's pretty quick. i'm like show me the turbo, he opens the hood and is like, well, it's underneith the engine blah blah blah. . .*smack to the head*

what a twit!
should have known better from someone who had previously owned one of those nissan minivan things (old boxy wwith dual rear sliding doors) with tiny 14" "rims" and a 20" Nissan emblan on the back window, a "twin" exhaust tip from pepboys, blacked out tailights, and lots of bump in the trunk.

one of my best friends got a Ford Probe in HS (the first gen), and told people it was a turbo, but her uncle had gotten it disconnected, and that's what the little button by the gear selector was for.

another friend had a k-car, but the "upscale" model with a turbo. he swore up and down he had gotten it to 180..

(yeah, 180 kilometers per hour maybe)

then there was the kid (this was in 1995-- i'm old) in my autoshop class whose dad had bought him a new Turbo Z. before he crashed it IN HIS DRIVEWAY, he raced another kid in the class with an '88 Turbo Z, and got smoked. so after he crashed his Z, he showed up in a new Turbo Supra. well, this time he's faster (duh) and we never heard the end of it. yeah, my HS was the "have enoughs" and the "have waaaay too much-es"

I have two stories similar to the ones above:

1. I had a Probe GT in HS. This other dude did too. He used to swear to me that he had a turbo installed, but every time I asked him to pop the hood, he'd say that he couldn't b/c he never shows anyone his engine. Liar.

2. A kid in an Eclipse GS wanted to race me (again, in HS when I had a Probe GT). He would tell everyone that it was supercharged. We all knew it was BS, so I did (race him). I whooped his arse. He said he had a bad start, so he wanted to go again. I whooped his arse again. When we both came back again, we got him to pop his hood. Guess what, no supercharger. He then tried to lie and say it was hidden so it wouldn't get stolen.

Some people.

i wanted a Probe GT soooo bad when i was in HS and then in college. instead i had a '91 3-speed corolla. the way i drove, anything faster would have gotten me killed.

i now appreciate my dad not letting me buy that '70 Olds 442 w/ the 455.

oh wait, i have another...when we were in middle school, all of my firends liked cars, so we would sit around talking about what we wewre going to get. i wanted a 5.0 mustang (hey, i was in middle school. i didn't know any better). one of my friends' "parnets" had a Z24 convertible. it was a cool car, but they all SWORE it was faster than the mustang i wanted. ridiculed me b/c i didn't believe them. of course, they all deny it now.

I heard about a HS kid who took two wooden blocks and stuck them between the axle and chassis on his car because he wanted to raise the rear-end. This was on a RWD domestic vehicle. I bet it was a smooth riding vehicle.

nah, mine's still the best...if you search for it, the whole story is somewhere in here.

my friend's little brother was paying him a visit, and just got a new base RSX. he walks in the door, and tells us he just drove 120 all the way there. so of course i reply, "wow, your car must be pretty fast..."

so of course he drags me outside to brag about his car, and told me he had a japanese (no, really?) 2.0L i-vtec specially built by "docs" in the car. having never heard of such an engine builder, i had him pop the hood...he then points to the big DOHC sticker on the engine.

somehow, i didn't fall on the ground in riotous bursts of laughter. i think i was in shock over the incredible display of ignorance i just witnessed. i just smiled and said, "wow, that's nice..."

posted this a little back:

long story short~saw a Probe POS that had a VTEC sticker on the back. So I pull up and ask him if his car had a VTEC in it, and he was like "oh yeah man". I asked him what series it was and he said "um..............F-series". I thought I was going to hit the curb I was laughing so hard.

and in my HS, we have kids who think that cut springs, rattling trunks, 13" hubcaps, and a hood painted black so it looks CF is the "cool" thing. Oh, almost forgot the fartcan

Was he using the same tone of voice some people use to describe their PCs to the helldesk tech?

"It says Pen..ti..um 1-point-8 g-h-z, then underneath it has 128 R-A-M..."

This guy I work with is a storyteller who is never wrong. By separate stories, he is a mountaineer, was on a ski patrol at 14, a rodeo cowboy, and a nationally ranked college baseball player...He has bitch-tits and no college experience (we checked...) Oh, he also owns a "F-150 XLT-Larait_Eddie Bauer".

Anyway,I was sitting in a cube at work, and I was flipping a flat metal disc (endcap) for a small motor. It was about 2.5" across, and had a sizeable hole in the middle for the motor shaft. Story boy asks me what it is. I told him it was my muffler bearing: I had left it in my pocket by accident...This charming individual who works at AutoZone then says "Oh, you have one of them centrifugal type mufflers, right?"
sure chuck....centrifugal type...all WRx's do...

A guy I knew in college (back in '94 or '95) got a brand new Mustang GT. I hadn't had the chance to see one up close yet so I was giving it a detailed one over. The hood had those little nostrels in 'em...up near the window. I asked him what the deal is with those and he said that they are for the supercharger the dealer had installed for him. Pretty excited I asked him to pop the hood so I could see how it was set up. Happily he obliged and soon it was open...no supercharger that I could see.

But he instead pointed at the pulleys...and said that the accessory pulleys were the supercharger.

The conversation went really downhill from there.

its ok to cut springs, so long as you only cut the dead springs, they don't do anything....

You can technically outdrive your headlights. My 87 GTi was great for this because the headlights were so bad. You could have glued 2 maglights to the grill and had better illumination. I guess you aren't out running the speed of light, but going fast enough your lights don't illuminate far enough ahead.

The yellow light travelling fastar than white is a classsic though!

FWIW Cutting dead coils on a spring generally reduces the springs free length, but also reduces the sprngs stability. Not a recommended method of lowering. Real ghetto.

On the third floor of my dorm there was a sign in the bathroom asking what you would do if you won the lottery. Mind you the third floor is a girl's floor. So of course there's things like...i'd give it all to charity...or...i'd go shopping!.... Amazingly there was stuff on there like..i want a titanium exhaust and a turbo for my honda...i want a green mustang...or...i'd get a pink ferrari. Most interesting, however, was...i'd buy a Mercedes Benz ZL55. Man, when Mercedes makes a Z class someone let me know. I think she was talking about the CL55 AMG which is a sweet car...493hp and all...oh ya and automatic only (girls can't drive stick). Wow, girls should just not be allowed to talk about cars.

And there's always the guy upstairs...."your car can't have a turbo...you don't have a front mount."....as he gets into his Saturn with rims and exhaust. Are people really this stupid?!
