Default 2013 5 door over 80 indicator

I found out today that my subie has an over 80 mph indicator. While driving to LA, whenever I went over 80 a very annoying whistle would start. Very annoying. I thought one of my windows were slightly open, but nope, they were all shut. Very annoying for a brand new car to have only 1100 miles on the odom.

Must be a Cali "thing" as mine does not do that.

I don't think the OP was referring to an actual feature of the car. I think he's just commenting that something is causing wind noise when he exceeds 80 mph.

I think it's the big ears large mirrors.

I came pretty close to having "the whistle" on one roadtrip. I could hear it starting to form, but I wasn't going fast enough to sustain it. 80 mph is approximately 130 km/hr, and there aren't (m)any places up here where we're legally allowed to drive that fast.

There's a thread on one of the XV forums about the same problem.

Is it this noise? http://www.subaruxvforum.com/forum/s...e-w-video.html

Yes. I was being sarcastic. Good find in the video. That's the sound. Sucks.

That's nothing. My parents had an early-2000s Legacy Outback sedan that made the most horrific wind noise whenever traveling over 50 mph. I don't know if it was the drip guards that they installed over the top of their windows or what, but the wind noise in that car was completely obnoxious.

Might as well post the direct link, click on the picture for the video.

My car does not make this sound, and I have a sport with roof rails, mudflaps and side molding but no other exterior additions...

Holy crap, I was going to say mine made a little noise here and there last time I went across Utah on the 80mph speed limit places, but nothing even close to that! That's just crazy...

Anyone know what is causing it? Wipers? Mirrors? Hood design?

Have you noticed a leaky windshield? Sounds weird, but I've heard whistling before when there was a leak in windshield seal. I've been around 90 in mine and havnt heard anything like that at all. Maybe my rack drowned it out, idk

Hey peeps... I came back From my trip today and noticed something. No noise at high speeds in cold weather. When I was in the mid 80s the whistle sound always showed up after 80 mph, but when I was in mid 50-60, no annoying noise past 80mph. Any thoughts.

^^ Hmmm. I can't imagine what might cause this behavior. I'm wondering if temperature is the only variable. How about windy day vs. still day? Windows cracked vs. raised?

Time to break out the blue painters tape. I'd run it across the top of the windshield first. If it still makes the noise, start putting the tape where you think the noise might be coming from. Eventually you should be able to track it down yourself.

My WRX makes that noise when the moon roof is open due to the factory roof rack, I've never heard it in my base impreza tho.

Wind is definitely a factor. I-5 to and from LA was extremely windy. Every time the wind blew harder the pitch would go up. Even with windows open it makes the sound. I used the wipers to see if the rubber blades where causing it but nope, not the wipers. So it would have to be the mirrors, or some body component or the windshield. Another thought is the spacing between the windshield seal and the metal frame. There's a trough to drain rainwater. I can see that being whistler.
