Default Remote start - disable engine shutdown

So unlike a normal remote starter that only shuts the car off when you step on the brake before putting in the key, the Subaru OEM remote starter shuts the car off when you open the door. This requires me to then start the car again once I get into it and want to drive. Has anyone found a way to disable or bypass this? I still want it to cut the engine if someone hits the brake before putting in the key, but don't understand why Subaru has it do the same when a door opens.

Yeah, it is annoying isn't it! I've not heard of any way to disable it. Subaru calls it a "safety" feature. I have simply gotten used to it, but I know that is not what you asked.

Regardless, I do enjoy having it, especially in the winter months.

For the Impreza, this is the case for 2012+ models. Earlier models did not have this restriction. You can purchase a non-OEM remote and also not enjoy this restriction.

It already came with a factory starter so a 3rd party on is out. But this safety feature is pointless. Any other starter just shuts off when someone tries to put it in gear.

I did alot of research on this when i got my car with the factory remote start. I have found nothing and no way to disable the problem. Alot of people have done something with the door switch which will stop the interior light from coming on when you open the door which intern allows the car to stay running.. If Subaru would let people know of this when they offered it i would have bought an aftermarket one and told them to keep their crappy remote start.
