I drove down to Wichita this week, averaged 30mpg on the way down with a/c blasting and 75mph with a headwind the last 200 miles. I don't think I can ask for more

I got an 08 2.5L and I get great milage for an AWD car. About 600km on 55L. Converts to about 370 Miles on about 14.5 gallons.

That calculates to 25.5 MPG, which isn't terrible (especially for an AWD car), but is too low for me to consider buying the car. The Impreza didn't make it onto my radar screen as a car to consider purchasing until the 2.0L engine in the 2012+ Impreza, which can yield 30+ MPG (30 MPG is the minimum required fuel economy for me to consider buying a car).

My wife's 2003 Honda Odyssey minivan gets 22 MPG on the highway. That's better than most SUVs, but is nothing to get excited about. For a small car to only get a few MPGs more than a minivan would keep me from buying it. At 30+ MPG, that's a significant enough improvement over the van for me to take a look. I typically average 32 MPG in my 2012 Impreza. That's approximately 50% better than the minivan's fuel economy, and that's significant.

I've said it before and I'll say it again--I'd LOVE it if Subaru would put their turbodiesel engine in the Impreza and sell it in the USA. Now THAT would be an awesome car. Diesel torque in an AWD car--perfect.

Only getting about 25 highway with my '11 sti on sport mode somehow better than 23.1 if I'm lucky on intelligent. Not too great considering I went from a 02 v8 mustang that I could easily get 23 on the highway doing 75mph. But oh well I would take my subie over that any day 😊

Isn't the epa for the STI something like 23 mpg for hwy? If that's the case you should be happy!

My sons manny tranny 2013 impreza has been getting 33.6 mpg. More city driving than me. I'm still getting 36.6 mpg mostly highway with my CVT. Both of us pleased with better than expected mileage. He is just under 2k miles while I'm at close to 30k miles with my 2012.

Those are nice numbers, exactly what the window sticker says you should be getting for both your son's mt and your cvt. are those hand calc numbers or dash gauge?

I was going to tell you, since your so much happier with your XV;
Drove the subie on last short family trip ( about 800 miles and wanted the fuel savings) and my wife was making fun of my "station wagon", in good humor though. I keep telling her it is a 5- door, so she googled station wagon and apparently it said something about having 5- doors and rear seat, blah blah blah. So score one for her, she didn't buy the branding argument. When I tried the "hatch" approach she asked me if I were a ricer. But...... Then we were beside an XV at a light. I didn't see it at first, pulled up on her side. She said she wasn't aware Subaru made a cool Crosstrek SUV. She thought it looked like her old RX-350 at first.

So.... You can only imagine the fun I had at her expense for the next hour. Had she noticed the XV part she would have realized what it was and the conversations we had about them. But.... The CrossTrek was a cool SUV. Rofl. Still makes me laugh

I still have yet to see another XV on the road. I'm just starting to see a few geezers from the Villages tooling around in new Imprezas...

Must be a geographical choice. I see XVs all over the place up here in NYS. It is my impression that the XV is outselling the Impreza in the northeast.

I have probably seen as many XVs as new imprezas. XVs are getting popular.

Same here, there are as many if not more xv's than imprezas.

I've seen a couple xvs and some imps in my area. Lots of outbacks and foresters though.

I see both, but way more imprezas than XV's around. There are a whole lot of them on the road where I live.

The entire time (16+ months) I had the 2012 Impreza, I saw three others on the road. Then I parked next to an XV at a festival and really wanted one.
I saw an XV once on the road- but it was righ after leaving the dealer... Mastro's courtesy car.
Here in central Fl, namely lake county, most subarus on the road are Foresters and OB's in the Villages (OLD FARTS). In orlando there are some wrx/sti's, but usually around here if someone drives a subaru its because they're a yankee. People have to go out of their way to buy a Sube here.
But they are becoming more popular, for sure.

I am very seriously considering one of these for my next Subaru, I love my current 02 Bugeye but the gas mileage leaves a little to be desired.

What are you thinking about getting? Impreza or XV?

That's pretty good for the beast! Is the xv significantly heavier than the Impreza?

Like 200-300 lbs iirc.
It definitely takes a bit of a hit on the mpg's, but the rest of the car makes up for that, imo.
Still needs a sixth gear out on the interstate, just like the Impreza. But I still cling to my MT's. No cvt/auto quite feels the same.
For the kind of driving I do and the kinds of roads I encounter, the XV is just a much more pleasant car to drive.
